Ive got a 56 f100 with a 55 chevy car gas tank. Question is , does any body make an adjustable item that goes in the tank wire to change the oms of resistance to make the gauge read correctly? could it be just a resistor?or some thing like we used to run slot cars with?( you do remember slot cars don't you?) I, m not changing the tank or the gauge ,there is a way to do this,I just haven't found it yet.
the `56 Ford fuel gauge needs a sender that is 73 ohms full and 10 empty , a `55 chevy sender is 30 ohms full and 0 empty i think you would be better off adapting a ford sender to the chevy tank
Look at getting a sender that is adjustable for tank depth from a company such as VDO or the like. It would need to match the ohm range of your gauge, however.
I've got a question along the lines of this post. Can you take an ohm meter and place it around the wire going from the tank to the meter to determine the range that the current gauge is operating at? My current gauge is correct, but I want to replace it with a new SW wings unit, and need to know which one to buy. Not meaning to hijack this thread, but appreciate any help. Jim
