I just added a new sender to my 1936 Ford tank, and with the ign on and the lever of the sender at the top, or full; it reads full on my SW gas guage, but when I move the float on the sender to the empty position it only read 1/2 full on the guage, not empty?

    Any ideas?

wrong ohms sender. They make several different ones. Are you sure you're getting full swing on the arm?

I don't know, I had the same trouble with my '32 tank. I followed the instructions carefully and measured twice and cut once and bent the rod and still only reads 3/4 full. I guess I'm not surprised as the stuff's made in Mexico now! grrr! OBTW be careful with the rubber gasket. When I installed mine, the gasket got twisted and chunks broke off into the tank.

  4. take an ohmmeter and measure your sender....should be 240 empty and 33 full

at the dealer we always have to check the measurement of the arm, to make sure it didn't bend in shipping.maybe something to look at.Also check the position of the sender in the tank to make sure its not hitting any of the baffles.

I had it out of the tank and in my hand, moving the float all the way down and all the way up, all the while watching the guage and it went from 1/2 to full.

Dooley, I have a tool that will put resistance into a circuit to check the reading of the gauge,pm me if you want to borrow it.

It was the wrong sender for the SW guage, Found a SW sender and all is fixed, thanks for the offer.
