I am replacing the gas tank in my 59 Ford Ranchero. You simply cannot find a new gas gauge sending unit for the old one. The new tank is a 1969 20 gallon Mustang tank. I am laso replacing the gas gauge sending unit with the new style. The question is this. Do I use the old gas/temp voltage regulator on the back side of dash, use newer style or or go around it? Anyone know for sure? Thanks
The new gas sending unit will have to be matched up to the ohms range that the gage uses. Go to www.tanksinc.com They have a great selection of universal sending units and a great tech section/troubleshooting guide, as well as lists of different car makers and gage manufacturer's ohms ranges. Here's a direct link to their tech page on sending units http://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=results/category_id=159/home_id=-1/mode=cat/cat159.htm
Simple solution,Ford used 6 volt gauges up into the 80's this takes care of all the gauges so you can use the Mustang sending unit that fits the tank: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mustang-Con...Parts_Accessories&hash=item1c4b8d7821&vxp=mtr This shows how you wire it up.
If the info given by Tanks inc is correct, Ford didn't change the ohm range until 1986. Beep said he was using a '69, so should be good to go.
Thanks guys. I just love this site. Someone somewhere will know the answer to almost any question. And best of all, HAMB'ers are willing to share their knowledge. Thanks again
