I started building a gas tank today and was thinking about the line to the engine. Will it need to be a"hard" line or can I use a rubber gas line all the way from tank to engine? Fred
You're supposed to use hard line whereever possible, with rubber only at connections that you need it at. And NEVER EVER use copper as fuel line, it work hardens with vibration and can become a big mess.!!!! Jay
my nephew just installed a FI setup on a SBF the kit included rubber lines for the feed and return sides, they're both 8-10 feet long at least.it's special super duty stuff though,i wouldn't go with everyday parts store rubber line.that said, how hard would it really be to make up a special hard line? you can have rubber hose right where it comes out of the tank for a short 2-3" section to keep from cracking the line from vibration,it'll make fabbing one up easier too-george
When I went to replace the gas line on the Fairlane, the guy at the parts store told me to replace it with all rubber line..... Holy shit! I thought to myself.....People actually DO that? I replaced my line with large diameter metal brake line. Maybe thats not the right way, but it seems to work so far. I think Speedway sells a roll of aluminum line for this application. But wherever you get it, I would think that a metal line would be the best way.
FWIW, NHRA rules limit rubber fuel lines to no more than a total of 12". The rest of the lines must be hard. Even if you don't intend to race, the rule is based on years of experience...
