I am so lucky to have my ****box 88 Toyota pickup to drive when I feel broke! Gas at the station by my house is 2.10 for regular unleaded as of this morning! My F-100 gets about 15 MPG, my 42 pickup is down to about 12 and my supercharged late-model Chevy runs on super. So until I hit the lotto, the Toyota has become my daily driver at 20-plus mpg.

  7. My choices are limited. No longer own an econo box. So it's the galaxie @ 13.5 or whatever the Chysler gets when we get it on the road.
    Still gotta get there so...

Doesn't everything get more expensive over time? I have to have gas to drive a car...and I want to drive my car. I remember paying a little less than a dollar sometimes, and on up to $1.50 and a little over sometimes in high school. That was close to fifteen years ago. We really don't have it that bad over here, right? I think I'm paying a little more than I used to for a candy bar too.

I have a place about 1/2 mile frome me that has Unocal/76 110 octane leaded race fuel for $2.89 a gallon. They told me it won't go up, no matter what the other gas prices do, so I'm pretty happy! [IMG] I was payin $3.99 for turbo blue! [IMG]
BTW: I can run premium no lead, but for close to the same money, I'll at the very least mix 'em half'n half! Can't beat the smell of the good stuff, and it runs a little better too!!! [IMG]

  10. Grim,
Ethyl (premium) was .27 when I was in highschool. Or you could shop around or hope for a gas war.
Money was a lot tighter, I worked as a grease monkey for a little over 2 bucks per hr.
Your right everything goes up. No end to it. And we do still have it better than most of the world.
I know one thing for sure, there's no bus service to my neighborhood, and I don't walk worth a flip anymore. So I'm drivin'. And I'll probably be grinnin' the whole time. [IMG] [IMG]

    Let's see...
    1,95$US is 2,60CDN$.
    2,60CDN$ divided by 3,8 (liters to a gallon)= 68© a liter.
Well, that's Canadian prices on good day. Oooops...

Ok here goes, well i actually don't know because i stopped looking about 10 yrs ago & i didn't put six carbs on to save on gas, **** it i'm going to enjoy myself while i'm still breathing.
I think our prices equate to something like $8.50 a gallon,
& nearly all that is tax!

Not that I agree with the gas prices by any means...I think the price is so far out of control it is ludicrous. However, we are also people who will find no discomfort in spending $1.49 for 20oz of spring water. $1.49 for ****IN' water?! Have we gone mad?! $1.49 for liquid that falls from the sky?! 20oz compared to 1 gallon...Seems to me the price of gas isn't all that inflated when you compare the two. Yes it is apples and oranges but this scenario is unfortunately something we need to deal with as it is part of what we do. My point is, people have no problem over paying for things they really don't need but get all pissed when the price of a "necessity" increases. (Not that gas is a neccesity. I guess we could all save money by using public transportation...) I'm not happy about it either and I think it is a travesty of justice but there isn't much we can do. So I say drive your hot rods and kustoms as much as you see fit and enjoy doing so.
I will be driving my car as much as possible once the weather turns for the better and the price of gas isn't going to deter me too much. Hell, I am more concerned about this years weather as opposed to gas prices. [IMG] I may not run across country but I am for **** sure not going to let the gas prices ruin one of my favorite p*** times.

  20. Took my wife to work this morning @ 8am, p***ed our local 'cheap' gas station...It was $1.99.

Came back 2 hours later to fill up....It's $2.03....

Still, it IS still cheaper than back home in England.

  21. Hey I just got this email. This is probably against some kind of a rule, so Grim if you're out there take care of it.
But here goes, and it does sound doable to me.
A pretty simple plan to take the power back. I'm in.

    Read on....Subject: GAS WAR!

    Join the resistance!!!!

I hear we are going to hit close to $3.00 a gallon by the summer. Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action. Phillip Hollsworth, offered this good idea: This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas.

It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read it and join with us!

By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1.50 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $1.97 for regular unleaded in my town

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50 - $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace....not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But, we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.

Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), E**ON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of E**on and Mobil gas buyers.

It's really simple to do!! Now, don't whimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

I am sending this note to about thirty people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and p*** this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all. (If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician. But I am ... so trust me on this one.)

How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! I'll bet you I didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together we can make a difference.
If this makes sense to you, please p*** this message on. PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK

Well, I didn't see any racism, blatant politics, ****, or pictures of Ryan in there. [IMG]

Seriously - I hope I'm not seen as some sort of lame *** hall monitor now. After that idiot mucked the board Ryan asked me if I could help now and then - and I've been really stand offish about messing with too much of anything. Honestly I don't think I'd have the patience or reslove to monitor this board the way Ryan does. I'd kick half of you ****ers off and the rest would probably hate me....even more than they already do.

I think last year when this topic was posted someone included a list on where each of the gas station companys get their gas, whether it was foriegn oil or American. Does anybody still have this list? Does anybody remember this or am I just blowing smoke?

  26. Gas Price Watch was a useful site last year when prices got silly.

It has a search engine that will locate gas prices within a radius of your home zip code.

It gets updated almost daily too.

Awww c'mon, Limey, it ain't THAT bad over here...

According to the AA (not alcoholics anonymous, but after looking at the petrol prices, it'll drive ya to drink!), the average price for premium/lrp petrol is £0.82/l. If we convert that to US gallons, that's £3.11 and then convert that to US$ at the horrific (depending on what side of the coin you're on - and since I still get paid in $$...) exchange rate we currently have of $1.88/£, you get $5.85 (rounded up for effect [IMG] )

and it IS all taxes (86% !)...

...and MOTO won't take my coupons! [IMG]
