Anyone got a good idea as to cleaning my gas tank. It is an auxilliary tank for an old Bronco (fits perfect in a Model A) It has big chuncks of varnish flopping around in it, shook most of it out, but sure there is more still stuck in there. It is a poly tank. Any ideas???

If you put a couple foot length of clean linked chain
it the tank and shake it around real good, it will knock
most of what's stuck in there loose...

    Hope that helps..!!

Use the chain & if possible put it in one of those smaller cement mixers, if it'll fit! & leave it turning slowly....it works good.

    Lo-tech post?
Mine is real rusty and I had to cut out a chunk and weld in a few pieces, plan on using some sealer system to coat it inside.
Best idea I came up with is to put in about a quart of pea stone (It does have a baffle, chain may be a bad idea, like permanently in there) and tie it to the back wheel on my backhoe. It will fit right in there, fasten to the wheel weight mounts holes with rachet tie straps. Move a few logs around, s****e some brush and pull the cap. Few more chores around the yard, and it should be empty, repeat if desired. Or spend time and money building a tumbler, say out of an engine stand and that hog roaster power unit?

I plan to use a friends tractor. Put chain and pointed rocks inside my tank, strap it to the rear tractor wheel, jack up the tractor wheel and let it run a while.

  10. One cup Muriatic acid in two gallons water- slosh it around and let it set for 6 hours then flip over let set again 6 hrs- then fill it up with water and flush out several times. allow overnite dry before using tank[wont harm plastic]those rocks and chains and cement mixer seem a little harsh on plastic to me [IMG]

ALCOHOL/SHELLAC THINNER buy two gallons and do it twice and it will be clean as a whistle in 20 minutes. eats it instantly [IMG]

  12. 48 Hemi is right. Also race gas will do the same. Just eats that old varnish up!

I have some motorcycle tie downs that rachet around the tank then hang it with bungee cords. after I duct tape all the holes with the alcohol in the tank I bounce and spin the tank for 10-15 minutes then dump it and refill it with fresh alcohol and do it again and its clean and shiny. if it turns out to be a rusty old dog after its clean I like the POR15 tank sealer kit and I use the same bungee cords [IMG]
