Hey Y’all. Got a question for you.

In 2006 I bought a brand new steel gas tank for my 34 Ford. I bought it from Bob Drake.

Due to some job changes I didn’t drive the car for a couple of years- like 2017- 2019, but I kept the tank full of ethanol-free gas. When I got back to it and ran it a bit, I noticed the see through fuel filters were all brown inside. Since I have one of the filters that can be taken apart and cleaned, I did that and found that it was filled with rust particles. It seems like the inside of the tank is disintegrating.

I must admit to being surprised. Is this typical of Drakes tanks?

What would you do if this was your car?

Clean it and seal it. Radiator shops used to do this, but most have closed down around me. I used POR 15 tank sealer on a tank I build and so far it has worked quite well. If you use their product I advise you to wear old clothes as it can get quite messy and the stuff doesn't come off.
