I have two Ford 1953 cars I'm parting. But for $325 and no fuel line contamination issues I say go with new.
Call to check on availability:http://www.autocityclassic.com/inde...facturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=64 Or if the old tank seems solid but just dirty a good radiator shop could boil it out,had mine boiled and leak tested for $65 looked like new when done.
I will wholeheartedly agree with Jeff about Auto City Classics,,i spent a bunch trying to reclaim my old gas tank,,their prices and service are excellent. HRP I posted the swap over on the '54 Ford Club of America web site. http://1954ford.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=2290&hilit=+gas+tank
I tried to find on for months but everyones out of stock. There is one on ebay right now. there was two but I got one of them. Good luck.
Here is a solution but it involves somw welding:http://www.ebay.com/itm/1955-FORD-P...ar:1955|Make:Ford&hash=item35b02f223a&vxp=mtr Notice the big drop in price?? turns out the 55-56 tank will bolt in place of the 52-54 tank except the shape of the filler neck is different, one of our members in the 52-59 Ford group swapped the neck from his old tank to the new one and he was home free.(Tom's Classics and Auto City Classics is the same place,Tom's is his ebay handle)
Since I founded the 1952-59 Ford Social Group in May of 2009 members are always searching for 1952-54 Ford gas tanks,it seems Bob Drake may have a corner on the market and probably supplies almost every Ford aftermarket vendor out there. When folks call to order one all these companies seem to be out of stock at the very same time.More than likely they must do a production run of a limited quantity and when they are gone it may be months before another run comes out.
