I could use some help with my gas tank. I'm buying a spun aluminum tank and I don't know if I need to have a vent in the top of the tank or not.
Its going into a 1960 Ford Panel so it will sit on the underside next to the frame rail and uses a filler tube thats about 24 inches long and sits higher than the tank. I've attached a picture for fun.
I believe the filler tube has a vent on it but I don't know why it is threaded on the end.
Is this vent off the filler tube enough?
I've done some reading here and seen people run a tube from the tank to the top of the filler tube. Do I need to do this?
I am worried about proper venting and making sure it will fill without any problems. Thanks.

That tube off the filler is the vent. I needs to go to a roll over valve or collection canister if your environmentally conscious.

  3. If that vent is just a hole in the filler tube - not a pipe running inside of it - it seems like it would give you trouble filling the tank. There will be a solid stream of gasoline running down, the air being displaced would be trapped until you stopped filling.
