Locking gas caps dont work worth a ****. When I drove tow truck many times I had a customer run out of fuel and not have their gas cap key (I could never figure out why it wasnt on the same key ring with the ignition/door key). It takes a small screwdriver jammed in the key hole and a turn with some visegrips and you are in business.
That ****s,... If your parking you car on the street there is not much you can do. A locking cap might do more damage, if your still the easiest target on you block. I think it's time to customize....
They used to sell a tapered spring-type-a thing that you would shove down into your filler neck with a broom handle. The gas would go past it, but a hose won't. I'll bet they are on the shelves again soon, I hate locking gas caps. I don't want to have to get out of my car just to unlock the tank.
I work for Swift Transportation trucking company and they are pullin fuel out of our trucks all the time.. we are talking cpl hundred gallons there too.. we got 22k trucks and we get 5-10 trucks per day getting hit...
WTF????? Go crawl back under your rock. This **** of everyone coming out with an at***ude, to try to fit in or something, is getting old. This is not an off topic post, it's happening everywhere now. The guys were JOKING with him and he knows that. I wouldn't be in a good mood, if someone stole $80 worth of anything from me, either. He asked them to stop without being an ***. He thanked the guys who gave the info on the locking cap. Your post was inappropriate and unwarranted.
Run it out of gas, put a boat tank in the trunk and hook your fuel line to that (strap it down securely), and fill up the gas tank with water. If you can come up with another stock tank, maybe one with some rot to it, you may want to swap it out first and not fill the good one with water. Or you could just leave it empty and let them try to figure that out, put diesel in it, whatever. I wonder if you could get in trouble for putting anti-freeze in it, that would make a real nice mouthful to siphon out and swallow a little of.
Our area they have been using a piece of rebar and knocking a hole in you tank. Just remember if you shoot at them try to miss the gas can. Not sure if the fire insurance will be good for that..
Try: http://www.needasenseofhumor.com Hint: I was ALSO joking, and everyone but you knows that. Plus, I DID give info, which, if you look, you didn't. Cosmo
The spiral spring works the best. If the *****s are punching holes in the tenk though........ Cutting out cat converters is getting prety popular now too. I carry around a couple of locking gas caps in the glove box for the *****s in the parking lot that cheat their space. It's also a good prank.
i saw on the news the other day, a local business with delivery vans had some thief put holes in the bottom of his gas tanks to steal the gas!!!!. worst yet. cadillac dave
i put a locking cap on the hot rod when my buddy and i were watching the gas prices jump 3 times in one day after Katrina blew through. but like somebody already said they are drilling holes in the tanks to drain them. there is really no sure way to stop them if they want they will throw a rock through the window and steal the whole car, gas and all. all im doing is slowing down the honest thieves.
I'm putting mesh in the fuel fill of my 54F100 so a hose will not make it to the tank. The tank is a polyurathane tank, if it is like on a pickup I had is pretty indestructable..
That ****s......I have a mustang tank in the trunk, and thats where I have to fill mine....but I havent shaved my gas door yet!! If they put a hose in mine..they aint gettin' ****!
That ****s! I have noticed that some over the road semi's are fiiting a bar latch so they can pad lock the gas caps on their rigs. Have had quite a few semi deliveries come into my shop with in the past 2 weeks with them on. The drivers have said they got hit up while they were sleeping in the truck at night. Just to wake up in the morning with most of their fuel gone. Im just waiting till some loser pulls this stunt and gets his shorts changed by Smith and Wesson!
I carry a 5 gal can in the back of my truck filled with water and sand. Surprised noone has stole it yet....
On the news a little while ago they were doing a story on stealing gas. There was a guy in the twin cities who had his whole operation rigged so that he didn't even have to get out of his car to siphon your gas. He just pulled up close and could do it all through his window.
Just found out it's been happening here as well. Napa, here I come! I think I'll chain my dog to the bumper in the mean time.
I gotta go to Gee-Ayy! Sounds like my kinda place. From experience, I know it's legal to be shot at for being a "****wad" in Heber city, Utah..
If you put a locking cap on it they will just punch a hole in the bottom of your tank and drain it. Then you are really screwed.
