  3. I wish people would stop complaining about getting what they voted for.

Aren't we supposed to stay away from politics?

The disasterous Jimmy Carter days are coming back again.
    Voters are demanding it.
Old lessons must be learned anew...

Just how long is it before the 10% guys are pumping 24% into your tank? Or are they already doing it? That's what is going on don't you see?

Even more damaging, the EPA's own attorney admitted to the judges that because of its higher volatility, putting ethanol into the nation's fuel supply would likely increase smog where it was used. One of the judges, on hearing that the EPA was actively promoting a substance that could in fact diminish air quality, wondered aloud, "Is the EPA in outer space?"
The final decision favored the American Petroleum Institute. The judges agreed that the EPA was bound by law only to promote items that would improve air quality -- not to reverse the nation's advances in smog reduction. That decision was apparently forgotten with record speed. In the summer of 2000, ethanol as an additive was mandated for the upper Midwest, including the city of Chicago and parts of the state of Wisconsin.

I guess nobody remembers the MTBE uproar. As a carcinogen MTBE was removed when that removal took place ethanol was added.
As I understood it MTBE added to bring oxygen to the fuel mix, and ethanol is supposed to be a non-carcinogenic substitute. I thought this was a touted as the quest for lower emissions.

10% here for decades. What's the problem. I agree with the above about getting off your ass and doing something about it. Until then don't forget the hardened valve seats in your old motors.

  12. A fuel tanker driver told us at my work to not bother buying anything other than "cheap" unleaded. He claimed the higher octane fuel coming out of the terminal by I-40 was an ethanol blend.

Right you are- again the EPA F'd up and required this be a solution.
Ethanol is much better all around than that stuff. When Ethanol crosses over from an oxygenate, to a gasoline extender we run into problems.

It is here to stay, no doubt. The stations will start cutting the gas with more and more and not pass the savings on to the consumer.

That is where the Bill is aimed at telling the truth about what you are purchasing. Just fill up at busy stations and be happy we don't have gas lines and gas shortages. Gas prices will affect us all. I wish everyone of my cars got 35-40 MPG . Sadly only 1 does.

There are some really nice old cars around here being sold cheap because they are guzzlers. Wish I had more space.

  14. Nobody picked up on the incredible number of blends that "big oil" has to furnish here in the US? Hmmm, guess facts don't matter when your really hurting. And, we are really hurting. Here is a fact we might like to know and "can" do something about. If "big oil" could just blend 50 blends, one for each state, it would take off some 15 to 20 cents per gallon. Now, if we could get that to one blend, just imagine the savings. I am not talking about regular -vs- super either. I am talking about the blends (additives) that are required.

I've seen a lot of new 10% labels at the pumps here in Dallas/Ft Worth in the last few weeks.

Unless it's a Nailhead, doesn't need them, low spring pressure and high nickel content in the castings. And the water jackets are way close to the seats. More than half I've seen tried to put them in ruined the heads...

I don't know about Arkansas but all gasoline in Ca. includes ethanol. Also, all gasoline is the same, regular is all the same and premium is all the same, until the additive and ethanol is injected when the tank truck is loaded. The additive is a small percentage of the mix, much smaller than the amount of ethanol. If you think/believe one brand is better and worth more money that is what you should use. I remember my Dad telling me it was more important to limit the number of different places you buy gasoline from so that you weren't mixing a bunch of different additives and so forth, consistency was his goal.

My turbo car likes the ethanol blend, but the mileage has suffered.

In Winnipeg, Manitoba our provincial government has recetly regulated ethanol to be mixed with all gas sold. I havent seen to much of a differnece either way, although with the older cars that I have, I know that the ethanol tends to effect the rubber cup on the accelerator pump for the Rochester Q jet.
