Is there a difference in the brands or gas? My engine needs 93 octane. That is the easy part. What about the different brands, Shell, Mobile, John Doe's cheapie, etc. Shell said theirs is charged with Nitrogen. Well, that's a gas and I doubt if it would stay in a liquid fuel. Just wondering if any brand or 93 is better than any other. Does it just come down to Gas is Gas and that's all? Any thoughts or experiences?
I personally buy ethanol free unleaded from the COOP near me. If you don't have that option I would stay with Mobile, Shell, or E**on. Just my two cents.
All gas is the same until it reaches the distribution point where the ethanol and brand specific additives are blended in. Next time you see a tanker unloading at a station note that the truck is not marked Shell, E**on or Murphy, etc. with the exception of the major truck stop brands like Pilot or Love's. They operate private fleets. That same truck delivers to anybody who sells fuel. The driver is responsible for punching up the specific octane/blend per order. I prefer to use major brands when possible for the proprietary additives. I like Shell and E**on but also use Murphy and Kroger.
I'm using Valero 93 octane. No ping so far and the car runs good. I went with 91 octane from them once and it pinged, back to their 93. I have an OK Petroleum by me that has a racing gas pump. I may try a 1/2 93 and a 1/2 of the racing gas to see how it works.
91 octane is as high as I can find around here. I do remember once getting some 93 this year, I think somewhere in Ok. Do they still have Sunoco stations back east? I remember when I was a kid they had 6 or 7 levels available...was it 190 to 260?? I don't remember what the highest octane level was, I just remember it was the highest of all the different brands...and almost nobody used it cause it was like .20 a gallon higher.
There used to be stations in the 1970's that still had the Sunoco 260. Not many stations still around, I'll look at the one in the next town over, their gas has always been steep. When street racing was huge, there was a little shack by the junkyards with a CAM2 pump, open on weekends only and it would have a line of hot cars at it.
all I will add is buy it from a chain Mobil, quick trip shell ect there is a better chance of the storage tanks being in good conduction and them standing behind there fuel if you have a problem
I buy gas at 2 locations only and they sell a lot of gas, have yet to get a bad tank at either place.
We have a Sunoco here in town: https://www.sunoco.com/locations/tx/1403-east-highway-82-gainesville-tx-76240/
