Im about to put my 51 Dodge on the road and I was wondering what grade of gasoline to put in. I am using ethanol free 87 grade with octane booster now while working on it. Can I use 89 or 93?

Is it the original engine? Is it modified? If it's stock there's no real reason to run anything more than 87 octane.

Why would anybody need an octane booster for something that has a compression ratio of less than 7:1?

    Stick with good old regular.

I wouldn't even be wasting my money on anything other than the lowest grade gasoline you can buy. A 1951 Dodge flathead six will almost run on an alcoholics' piss.

The very low compression ratio makes any gas just fine. Use the cheap stuff. hogher octane is just wasting money.

Thanks everybody. Im mechanically retarded. It is the original, untouched engine.

    Now that's freakin' funny!!! :D

    I like this guy!

But as far as your engine goes.... Try pissin' in the tank after a couple of beers. That should be enough octane for it.

I wish everyone would "read up" on the octane rating method used for pump gas R+M/2, and how it relates to the old method of rating octane. Modern pump gas is really pretty darn good stuff if ya leave out the ethanol.
