    BLOWN NAILHEAD!!!!!!

Today we put the blower back on and fired it up......WOW!

Blower surge has to be the best sound around. The blower whine is lost with the open pipes though, I was a little bummed on that.......eh....not really.

After a little tweaking Casey and I got it singing a violent tune.....

Next, build up the the ST400 tranny, plumb the cooling system, rebuild the brakes and drive!

It has the 10:1 Arias Pistons in it, and it runs @10 psi with VP110 Gas. Running a MSD 6AL with a boost timing master. I haven't put it under load yet, but I am sure the setup will work fine.

Skoty! I may take you up on that in a couple weeks. I wanna try out that pullmax! We can make some bitchin interior panels!

Thanks for the praise guys.....we have been busting our butts on this thing! I'm stoked you guys dig it. I definitely had the shakes when we fired it up with the blower. This thing shakes the ground, and the percussion it makes in the air when it revs is something you would have to experience first hand.

I'm sure when I finally drive this thing, it will be like going to war, having my first beer, and losing my virginity all within a few seconds! hahaha.

God damn that is automotive sex, I just LOVE Nailheads.:D
Though I must say something, I can see future cooling issues using the road as a radiator:rolleyes::)

Like I told dave....I'm partnering with goodyear to develop a special 1320ft long garden hose for the strip. There may be other issues to contend with though.....like a wet drag strip. We're working on it.

Nailhead Buick YEA! Buick has all the performance you need and will keep up with any of them. Buick is never "outdated" even today!

Nice job...it will make a real neat head turner and runner!

    Congrats on Firing it up!!

That's the first Blown Nailhead I have heard in Many years!

Can/Would you mind posting the Formula for your Build on the Engine. I have 2 401's in my garage and one of them I want to put a blower on.

I don't know what to buy, or what machining needs to be done.

    Thanks,

    Ty O'Neal

In addition to the stuff a few posts above, it was a ready built fresh zero hour motor that came out of a competitive 60's drag boat. I know the valves are a bit bigger, it has stiffer valve springs, the heads have been ported mildly it has some type of other than factory rods and that the crank has been massaged. Exact specs...I have NO Idea. Its kinda a mystery motor that works, and works really good. I should have made an effort to get the details from the guy I bought it from, but I wanted to get out of there as fast as I could before he realized what he was doing, and since have lost his contact info. (I paid $800 for it)

I did however have to make a custom blower manifold which consists of a common plenum and a pair of Eelco 1" intake risers. PS.....Don't buy from that crook Marty (projectcarsupply) on Ebay. Not a good experience.

Hope that helps some....I'll post pics of the manifold when I get time.

Heres the manifold....pretty simple stuff. its basically a box made from 1/2 Aluminum plate welded together tapped for blower studs. The runners are 1" intake spacers. The holes were matched to the ports as well.

i was reading your post about building a 400 turbo , have you given any thought to using a clutch turbo? i think it would go along with the period theme you are going for.

I've thought about it, but I'm not into it. The ST400 is from 1965 so it fits the period just fine.

  30. Has the HAMB Drags crossed your mind??? I know that is a long ass haul but I have done it three years and counting and short of a personal disaster this year will be four!!!! 800 miles one way from here!!!
