Yes, I am very much wanting to drive it. Hopefully by the end of this weekend it will happen.

  3. -Chuckles... on that door bar, you'll want to cut it out and then weld it back in at an angle from just above your shoulder to down at your feet.

The way you have it provides little, if any strength between those two points. Put it in at an angle, and it will stiffen the chassis.

Also, if you're wanting to run it at a track... or it eventually wants to be certified, it'll need to be that way... just make sure it intersects your arm between your elbow and shoulder.

Keep up the good work, I can't wait to see this one on the track!

    Sam

    Thanks Sam,

The bar is at a 12 degree angle, and it is just there to tie in the rear hoop to the dash bar. It completes a box that way with the square tube subframe and will strengthen it quite a bit. There will be one more vertical bar on each door bar in the middle going down to the subframe as well.

I'm not looking to get the car "certified" as it would pretty much ruin what I am building....a period exhibition car. Because it is a modified unibody they require a full 10 or 12 point cage no matter what it runs in E.T. I didnt want to do more than just a 6 point cage, but with the torque this thing is producing I went the safe route and threw a little extra in. I know it won't pass NHRA tech, but neither will the front wheels, tires, no front brakes, fuel lines, blah blah blah....it never ends hahaha. If somebody wants to buy it sometime down the road and change it, it wont be hard to do.

It's just for events like Cacklefest, Dragfest, HAMB Drags etc...
    Just for FUN!

ok ok more shop talk. why exactly was the water pump not able to just bolt on? did the blower get in the way or was it a pulley issue. i know you must have mentioned it before but i cant recall all 400 something replies.

are there any other pressing projects with the car beyond a few drivability odds and ends? any more plans to fabricate stuff?

oh and when are those decals going on? gonna go the old handpainted route? id love to see racing stickers all over the side glass. stp, etc

Got some more work done tonight...

Built the mount for the radiator in the trunk, and swiss cheesed the trunklid for it.

The rear of the trunklid should be a low pressure area, this will help draw air into the radiator. The radiator is a 3 row double pass AFCO, and it will be cooled with a 3300cfm Perma Cool 19008 Puller fan.

Laid out the grid for the 1 3/4 holes:

    No going back now.....

Holes all deburred and cleaned up:

Radiator mounted on custom cradle. I'm going to cut off the filler and reposition it correctly later. The mount attaches via 4 legs, and a tab that mounts to the factory trunk striker location....nice and strong

    Next up....plumbing!

  12. Why put the radiator in the trunk? Seems with the engine setback, you could put three radiators up there.

Yes, theres enough room up front for another motor if I wanted haha.

I put it in back for 4 reasons:

    1. I want the engine compartment as clean and simple as possible. A radiator and a fan in the front would look ugly IMO.

    2. More weight in the rear (not much, but some)

    3. I like swiss cheesing things.

    4. I want it there.

I am going to try my best! I tore the suspension apart to finish all the subframe/bracing on the chassis after the Road Zombies BBQ.

Do you have an Idea How many Horsepower and Torque your Nailhead makes at the flywheel?

Better yet have you run a Dyno on this engine. If so, could you post the numbers or graph, I'm just Dying to know how healthy she is.

I'm watching your build for my own. I want to see what can be made.

    Thanks,

    Ty O'Neal

I doubt I will be throwing it to the dyno monkeys around here. I am afraid they will blow it up. Actually....I am SURE they would blow it up. With the boost and compression where it sits right now, it is making in the neighborhood of 800hp. Even with all the overbuilt rotating assembly stuff, it is still a 401 cubic inch hand grenade. I am most likely going to underdrive the blower before I use it on the strip. I would be happy with 500hp, and so would the motor. This thing is made of near unobtanium, and I would rather not destroy it.

Yes, this will definitely carry on!

Yes, this thread is quite the time vampire! Thanks for the good words! The build is slowing quite a bit because the shop is slow, and I'm running out of other toys to sell to fund it. I accept donations!
