hey guys my 62 nova g***er currently has a snorkle hood scoop on it.i am trying to be period correct to the 60's .what scoop would you suggest for a nova in that era.thanks in advance
Does your carb(s) stick up thru the hood? If so, I love a surfer scoop! Or a teardrop style Thunderbolt scoop with screen in the openings. Yep, the snorkel screams 1982 to me. How far are you from Gettysburg? I have an old teardrop hanging on the wall . I'll let it go cheap because it's kinda rough.
I don't know if your carbs actually stick through the hood or how much clearence you need, but my all-time favorite and absolutely 'period-correct' '60's 'g***er style' scoop is a late '50's to late '60's vintage factory Ford 'Super-Duty" truck hood scoop. This a neat, stampted steel ' bolt on' scoop with that comes with a removable painted (or optional chrome-plate)mesh grill insert. This same Ford "Super Duty' truck scoop, sans the grill insert was actually purchased 'over the counter' from Ford, given a Pontiac part number sticker and used on the '62-'63 Pontiac Super Duty race cars too!. Because of the Pontiac use, the prices of the Ford truck scoops on ebay tends to get a bit outragoes at times. The ebay scoops are of course *always* listed as being "super rare factory Pontiac 'Super Duty' scoops", even though 99.99% of the ones listed on ebay (usually with the 'Ford-truck-only' grill insert and Ford Truck part number sticker still intact even!) are actually off of old Ford dump trucks and highways tractors! But if you do the legwork yourself and check out some older "big-truck" or "heavy equpment" bonyards, you can still find them for cheap The last couple I bought in a truck boneyard a few months ago cost me about 20 bucks a piece. Right on!!!!! A few years ago you could still get these through Ford. .my second choice would be an offy, I believe they still make it.
thanks for the replys guys,i was thinkin a teardrop or grump lump,i really like the teardrop but it is a ford scoop and i'm sure i'll take some ballbusting for that.
I know!..................a few people looked at my car and said "I remember seeing a few Falcons like this about 30 yrs ago".
i like hellbilly's scoop to but my hood has a bigger hole than that scoop would cover. i know i could fix it but time is not on my side.
427 vette or for a later 60's car an L-88 would cover most anything while being GM freindly. The original snorkle scoops were sold along side the "Grump Lump" and "Sox Mopar" units in the late 60's early 70's but later versions did get much larger. For something built earlier in the 60's you probably won't find much off the shelf. http://www.up22.com/scoopw3.htm#PR-1

Hey don't let them give you to much bull when I was grown up if you didn't have a teardrop on your tri-five you better get one. I think they look great on a lot of cars, just cause Ford decided to use them on there Factory race cars don't mean ****.
Hey also i'm going to run a Ford Super Duty Truck scoop on my Willys if people don't like it they can blow it out their ....
You are aware that I meant ugly in a good way, right? That is what got raced by the real weekend warriors back in the day.
I know what you meant That's why I had to buy it. The wife calls it my POS car. But I think it's way cool
My wife calls then go to hell cars But she prefers them to the polished, perfect cars. It takes a lot of pressure off of me and we are always happy.
All my cars have been a little on the not polish side My lic plates on my 39 are No Wax 39. But I do polish it once a year with the wife's soft scrub!
