Hi there,.im building a nostalgic looking impala and im looking for ideas on how it will look, (i would like to put a straight axle in it!) anyone have any pictures of other impalas jacked up g***er style? also, does anyone make any fenderwell headers or other cool stuff?
    thanks,
    Angelo

  2. An Impala bumped up about 3 inches is about right. I'd stay away from the 4 wheeler look, I don't recall seeing that many up in the nose bleed al***ude.
Unless of course you're shooting for the later altered wheelbase look.

There that ought to get the creative juices flowing.
    Sorry no pics

not sure bout the straight axle on a 4dr impala, but what the hell, give it a shot!! if you have a friend or someone who could sketch one for ya that would be a lot cheaper that way if you didnt like it you"d just be out some crayons and paper!!

  4. Something like this?

usually 4 door chebbies were used for lowriders, and older smaller cars (such as willys or tri-5 chevys) were used for g***ers. The early 60s super stock wars had a lot of Impalas, but they were all 2 doors and just had the front raised some with stiffer springs.

I sold it at the Dunkirk swap meet to a guy from Erie, Penn. That was about 1986. Never heard from him again.

Me and a buddy were just wondering the same thing the other day. That was a cool ride.-MIKE

ding ding ding - we have a winner!

Big cars with a straight axle really bother me. I definitely love the nosebleed stance, though. Somewhere there's a pic of one of my dad's friends sitting on the front fender of his gold '58 (a Bel Air two-door sedan, I think) with the suspension jacked up and the inside headlight buckets gutted for a fresh air system for the built 283. Too *****in'!

Hey Mike, I'm originally from Erie, and I remember the car. You don't happen to remember who you sold it to do you? I have a bunch of car guy friends there, and I will get them snooping around just for the fun of it.

NO ONE BACK IN THE DAY WANTED ANY THING TO DO WITH 4 DR CARS.

If you want to make some kind of g***er it better be a 2dr. Any 4 dr was a family car or a parts chaser. If you build a 4 door your are playing pretend and only lying to your self that it is cool.

I think there is a mix up of terminology here. I think what you are after is the Super-Stocker Look. Couldn't find any pictures of the actual car, but someday i'd like to build a clone of Don Nicholson's 61.

Man there is some nice pic's here. You were looking for tip's on a 'g***er' era? Try using some taller spring's 3-4" in front, 2" in rear (mabe). That way if you want to change the car back, it's justa week-end away. Fo'door's have done in all style's since day one. Just not in any great number. Mock up the car with block's or jack stand's. Borrow some wheel's if possible and take photo's from many angle's. Measure the change's. Write them down. Screw the label's. I understand what you are trying to convey.
