"A blower would be nice." We were sitting around looking at the Austin Project with a Tunnel Ram and I asked Dad if it was missing anything and that is exactly what he said...he was right!

mine will have to start as Tunnel Ram.

  7. What/How did 60's race cars protect/cover their wiring. Today we have heat resistant loom but I assume that isn't period correct.

I don't know. But I used friction tape on my modern copy of a 60s race car.

    Hi Dave

All we had was the black Electricians tape that I used in my 37', and after a while it would get sticky from the adhesive seeping out from the edge's of the tape

    Here, there and everywhere.
If it was like most cars I've had from the 50's and 60's, there would be enough extra wires going nowhere to wire another car.

Anyone else getting work done on there Gasser? I am down hard rolled my ankle bad and am stuck in a air cast. I did get a autogear Muncie case with iron mid plate. I plan on building a M22 with wide ratio gear set with 2.56/1.75/1.36/1.00 gears

    Hi Langy

Did not see too many as they were more popular in the 50's, but when the small block chevy showed up it changed the whole engine picture

Size - weight and cubic inch they were hard to beat, then the speed parts guys went nuts making good parts and you know the story of how they were used in all types of racing

As a matter of fact my 37' had a GMC 6 in it and ran out on the dry lakes, until I bought it in 60' and started to convert it over to run in B/Gas using the injected 327

    Shameless plug!!!!

    Must have!!!!!
If your running a tubbed front axle in your gasser you Must Have.... Flagged kingpin bosses to present the bosses from popping out when your playing hard!!!!!!
I have seen 2 pics of cars getting messed up because of junk axles that the king pin bosses are not welded in properly this summer so play safe guys

Also note it helps to have the king pin set in the tube passed the center line of the king pin boss

    Hi Bill

Your T.I.G. beads are ' Welded Art ' just spot on the money, my buddy Lynn use to build flat track racing frames and his welds were like yours and they would nickel plate those 4130 frames

Those great beads would just jump off the frame they looked so good hi-lited by the plating

Its too bad that your axles have to be plated or painted and covering up your nice work !!!

  23. BCCHOPIT with welds like that you can say anything. WOW those are nice!

My 39 will be employing the stock front axle. While we are on the subject I have never been a fan of tube straight/drop axles. Maybe someone could educate me on their history?

  24. They are alot lighter than an I beam axle. It was a natural progression to going faster.

Plus building a gasser in 62' having a tube front axle had a big ' Cool Factor ' in your car

Plus mine had some drop to it too for more Cool

    Dave....
I like stock axles. Lots of times it harder to work around the stock spring pads locations and most have a drop. The tube just give you more freedom to locate your springs -shocks - pan hard bar and you can make them any size you want.

If you need stronger you can use lager tube and thicker wall thickness
My largest axle to date is 21/2 OD. .312 wall moly...
