I managed to find some of Don's art and several of his miniature motorcycles. Beautiful work to say the least.
Geez Don, when you mentioned models I didn't know we were talking about museum quality motorcycles with running engines! Excellent!

Ya BD I got the Sickness real bad, been a lifelong deal too and now that my time is running down it is getting worse cuz you want to do more while you can

Building the bikes was a 15 yr deal, took 13 months to build the prototype and dealing with 30 different shops doing bending - stamping - molds - rubber - plastic - painting - leather etc just goes on and on and on doing stuff that I could not do

Took a year trying to figure out how to put the tire tread in the molds ?

You had my vote based on your gasser alone, but the rest of your work has my head spinning. Keep doing what you do Don, it's wonderful!

Hey Don, did Steve Metz have your Chevy for awhile? I believe he was selling it and not sure where it went to. It was a very clean car and I always liked the looks of it. It really had the old Gasser look with a set of Hilborns. Vic

    Hi Vic

Yes Steve Metz had the 37' to make one of his ' Muscle Madness ' diecast model cars from it, but the group changed their minds so he sold the car to a guy in Boston

Can you believe that guy paid 69 grand for it, unbelieveable for an unblown gasser and it was not done on the restore

Now it is in Scottsdale and now it is not seen as it is not taken to shows, a real shame not to show people the real deal from 50 yrs ago

Don, Steve was supposed to make my Willys as well but never happened... maybe he was just jerking my chain.
Yes, $69K is a lot of money for an unblown car but it is a very nice car and well done. The new oiwner in Scottsdale should be shot for not bringing it out!:D Seriously, it is a VERY nice car, hats off to whoever redid the car! Vic

Eagle Field has a GREAT Group of Gassers who have participated since we started in 2009. This May we are going to group them together on Sunday according to ET and have some FUN! This is just a SMALL Sample..... Anybody interested?

    Hi VIc

Just some words on the very bad 37' restoration, Jeff Tann did it and changed a bunch of things like taking off my American 16" rear mags and tires he traded for some 15" so he could run the car at the strip [ those rear wheels & tires made the car!! ]

He told me it was going to be a keeper so I gave him the 327 that I ran, and told him not to run it as you will lay the crank right on the strip with the new sticky tires and 2 bolt mains

Then things really fell apart as he changed the interior - colored plex windows - way over did the frame paint - polished the American mags - just a bunch of things that really changed the car

He cut up the clutch linkage and redid it and now it is hydraulic too and very hard to push, so no one wants to drive the car as it is a pain in the ass to move

At least it is still a 37' and blue , a sad statement indeed

Its a real shame that the people involved in restoring the car are driven by EGO and BIG BUCKS instead of real hot rodding & racing passion like I have been for 55 yrs

Each of the new owners have said they all wanted to make it all correct and finish the car, but none have done a thing just BS

    That's racing, G Don

It's sad Don, but even more so when it was your "baby" and you have such great memories with it. People will say anything sometimes to get you to sell, but rarely do they follow through once it's theirs to do with what they want.

Yep that's it, as it is their nickel

The good thing is it will be around for awhile now, but not seen as it is in a private collection

    Don,
Sorry to hear the restoration wasn't to your expectations. I can truly understand how you feel but like you said, "it's their nickel". I'll be moving to AZ in the future so hope to see that 37 at a few local shows or events. Vic

    Don,
Guys like that are the grown-up version of that smug, rich asshole in high school who had a brand new muscle car or vette or Porsche that his Daddy bought for him,and would constantly brag about how fast it was,but had no clue how to work on it,and couldn't drive it worth a damn cause they were scared half to death of it.....It was theirs not because they were passionate about cars, but because they wanted it for a status symbol that they hoped would buy them "street cred".
