Ok, I've been gettin a lot of flack lately for not doin anything on my '40 Chevy coupe. Its going to be gasser and I've got the 454, the 4 speed muncie, the econoline front end and a '60s 9" rear. Now whats the best period suspension for the rear end? Just use leafs like its already set up for? When did multi-link suspensions start showing up? What are some other ideas?
Coli overs and long ladder bars were used alot, maybe some 1/4 elipticles would be cool to. Check out www.gassermadness.com there's always something good on there. -Jesse
here's one on Egay currently (in our neighborhood) 8 3/4 chrys, tho a little to narrow for your car ,its out of a 48 anglia 48" BP To BP (NOT Mine)
[ QUOTE ] Bolted solid. [/ QUOTE ] Ow. I don't think so. This thing is gonna be driven, too. No trailer queen. I didn't really want to keep the springs due to the power. Coils and ladder bars might be the way to go.
I've got a street driven Gasser ('41 Willys) and a '47 Crosley Wagon Gasser. Drop me a email, and we can talk...Gasser-to-Gasser. Glenn Hayes AHotRod@bellsouth.net
They used anything from bolting it solid, to supercool four links with torsion bars and friction shocks. I'd toss the stock springs in the trash and get some mopar semi-eliptical leafs from a mopar b-body. I've seen cars with those run low 9s, with the front wheels 10 feet of the ground well past the 60 foot mark. http://store.yahoo.com/chucker54/superstock.html Dave
