Here is three days of progress. I blew it apart and painted the frame, did a bunch of bodywork to the back panel and around the chopped area on the quarters. I still have a lot of bodywork to do. But I wanted to get the bondo areas sealed in primer.

A buddy gave me these seats.....The same guy who upholstered my buick made the covers...... looks like they will work. My driveshaft will be here tomorrow and I can start on the tunnel.

Nice workmanship and stance, but if you run those rear tires with that motor, I doubt you'll notice a difference between the drive shaft being hooked up or not.:D

Glen please make sure my side has a seat belt!!! I would hate to get ejected and caught in the spider web above my head. This car is totally ridiculous. Burn outs will be excessive and traction will be an option. I wish all you guys could go to his shop and see it like I get to. Glen is extremely talented and this new build shows his skills through and through. thesneakytiki<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>

By the way guys......you will all want to cry when you see the motor installed. I have top secret pics but I will let Glen post it so that I don't steal his thunder. I believe you guys will say something like.....omg, holys**t, ect. thesneakytiki

I think Justin was stretching it a little...(ok a whole lot)

But here is some progress. BBC, 10.5-1, 292H, TH400 with Transbrake, 3500 stall, currie posi with 4.11

I just started mocking up this torque arm....it is not welded in and there are
more pieces to the puzzle. with no upper four bar to deal with I can put my seats in the rear. The car is only 48" tall.
I also think the torque arm has taken stress off of the upper portion of the Z'd section all three arms are now mounted low to the center section.

Mounted my gas tank this weekend it holds 17 gallons.
The frame work around the tank is lined with 1/4" closed cell foam and fits snug around the tank. That frame work is locked down on top so the tank is secure without relying on the mounting tabs at the bottom of the tank. It sits on a platform that is welded to each side of the roll cage down tube.

    Nice chassis work.

What happened to the military tires? Though I suppose with that motor, they wouldn't last long. :D

What product(s) did you use to get the finish color? Kinda looks like the old Kondar (sp) primer surfacer we used in the 70's.

Very nice. I love how clean the Z looks. Nice roll cage too, I like the dimple dies on top.

Very cool build, Glen...that's going to be a wild ride!

  24. Beautiful work Glen.
    Well thought out, well done.
    The whole design just flows....

A question though, do the roll cage uprights go through the floor plates, are welded to them or?

I have the same tank in my 32.
An ok product, but the flange & seal leave a lot to be desired.

Mine came through with a warped filler flange and partially welded inner ring which allowed gas to leak badly.
Funniest part about the whole thing was the "tested for leaks" tag.

The pic shows the inner ring and its sad construction.

There's more to see in the tech article I did although I'm not sure where it's buried.

I can reprise it in a separate post if you like.

Thanks for all the kind words

C9....the cage is welded to the mounts on the floor of the body. There was a good discussion in the "Cage build thread" about the proper way to mount a cage. But, if I welded the cage to the frame I would not be able to lift the body off due to the taper of the body. The roof is wider at the top than at the floor. If I welded the cage to the frame, I would have to narrow the cage at the top. I wanted a good looking cage, then the safety. It should work for our Friday night track tech guys.
That is also why I went a little crazy on the floor, to try to create more of a unibody as it gets tied to the frame.

I have seen your post on the filler cap, thanks for posting those comments.
