Hello Hambers - I am looking for good refrences for companies that restore/upgrade classic gauge clusters. Have heard horror stories and would like to narrow down a list to shop around with and feel comfortable that the work would be high quality. I have a 1934 Plymouth cluster that I am retrofitting to my 37 Chevy coupe. Thank you all !!!! - Dogger
It depends on what level of restoration you want performed. The 34 Plymouth cluster is a difficult set and a cosmetic restoration will cost you thousands. I assume that a number of gauge restorers can provide you with a basic servicing: refinished housing, plating, new lens, cosmetic cleaning, repainting of pointers; dis-assembly, cleaning, adjustment, lubrication and calibration of each gauge. I have found that many of my contemporaries do fine work and others cannot even rebuild your temperature gauge. Call around to itemize what you want done. Assume that the basic level of service (that we put our name on) to run you up to $1000.

NO! NO! NO! This is United Speedometer. Operating under a new name? They had my '34 Ford gauges and money for 2-1/2 years. The California Board of Auto Repair couldn't get anything out of them. Threats of fraud and theft of property criminal charges finally got my stuff back and I will have to take it to another shop to have the mess corrected. Stay very, very far away.
Bob's Speedometer Shop in Howell, MI. I've used them on a few claims with nothing but everyone (appraiser, repair facility, owner) being happy.
Like this one? You don't need to spend 1000's to redo it. The speedo is out of a mid 70's Chev pick-up installed into the original cup and the needle swapped. The temp and oil are mechanical so no problem there. I used cheapie volt and fuel gauges I picked up. The fuel gauge should have it's own sender so the Ohm's work out right and you might have to adjust the sweep of the float in the tank. The volt meter is just a retro fit into the old gauge cup as is the fuel gauge. The actual guage faces are done with letra-set drafting decals. The dash face plate, which has the numbers and labels on it, was done by a auto decal maker here in town.
