I have in my 56 chevy truck the stock gauge cluster in which I would like to keep other then putting after market one.It also has a complete motor swap and I know I could just put a seperate gauge cluster for these but I would really like to get these dummy gauges to work .My question is the fuel and oil pressure work but the amp and temp does not what would I need to do to hook these up .Does the Amp gauge hook up as any other amp gauge would and does Temp gauge need a special sender or can I just a normal say Auto meter electric sender and have it work ?Thanks

  2. Order the sender for the 56 truck, then it's matched. I have used later GM senders as long as you use the one for a gauge and not an idiot light. The sender for a gauge is variable resistance to make the sweep work on the gauge. As far as the ammeter, check the stock wiring diagram to ensure it's wired.

  3. Yep. Pretty basic. Gauges don't care what motor is in there. They just need the right senders.

    My 2cents...
I know I reference them a lot but I got new repop ones for my '59 from classic parts of America. Assuming you stuck with an sbc...Temp screws in behind the thermostat and connects via a wire. Your gauge might have gone bad over the past 60 years so classic or lmc sell those.
