I am about to install some gauges in my 31 coupe and I am not sure what kind of layout I want to do. I'd like to do something a little different but I'm sure every way imaginable has been done. If any of you have any pics of some cool layouts I'd appreciate them. I will probably just put them in the tank instead of fabbing a dash panel of some sort.

  2. 31 A roadster on 32 rails.

Note that two of the gauges are 2 5/8" and two are 2 1/8".

Room for toggles if I decide to install some on the panel.

  6. Here's another idea for you.
Disregard the machine turned panel and look to the left of the column hanger.

The two gauges you see hanging there are 5" toward the firewall from the face of the dash panel proper.
Gonna do the same thing with the 31 roadster whose dash panel you see above.
Probably three 2 1/8" gauges and possibly four if they fit and will be visible. Not completely sure there.

What you can't see on the two gauge panel are four toggle switches that mount on the horizontal part of the gauge panel.
Said gauge panel being 3/16" aluminum cut out of an electrical box, retaining an "L" with it's nicely curved side.
The lower vertical leg is long enough for the instruments and the horizontal leg mounts to the 1 x 1" square tube steering column cross-dash brace while leaving sufficient room for the toggle switches in front of the square tube.

The gauges are not easily seen by the casual observer - they have to stick their head in the car - but they are easily viewed by the driver.

Any way, making a very simple dash panel in an A by installing only a speedo or speedo and two adjacent instruments works very well and it's not often done.
Doing it that way leaves a lot of room for some simple and traditional pinstriping at each end of the panel.
Or even a radio, or glovebox or....

Stewart Warner classic 5 panel. I added the indicator lights and put the switches in the panel keeping the rest of the dash clean.

hey thanks guys. Those are some good ideas. I was thinking about incorperating some street signage but not polishing it out to a mirror finish. I also dig the smaller gauges you used C9. I got some ideas for sprucin' up the dash too. I will post some pic when I'm done. I have a Model A coupe by the way. I also dig the pin striping, theres always room for that.
