Has anyone used a low level fuel warning light and low level alternator charge warning light? I'm interested in leaving the fuel and charging gauges in the box and relying on warning lights instead. I'm tryuing to leave the original appearance of the dash which used 2 gauges and speedometer. I would appreciate any advice on this? Incidently, I'm using an aftermarket wiring kit and Cl***ic hot rod gauges. Thank you Jack
I have oil and gen idiot lights on my 55 chevy, as original. The gen light is connected to the 3 wire 10SI alternator just like Chevy did in so many cars from the 70s-80s. The oil light is connected to a 20 psi pressure switch. I cheat...I also have an old SW oil gage in the dash next to the radio, but it's pretty difficult to see at night, the old gages didn't have very good lighting. I definitely need a good gas gage, driving as much as I do out on the lonely highways
Since you need a diode in the exciter wire of a conventional alternator anyway, I put a tiny LED in next to my volt gage. My $2 swap meet alternator gave up last summer and it worked just like it shoud. Blue
