Hi everyone.... My names Glenn & I've been looking at the cool builds & awesome craftsmanship on this forum for quite a few years now & have decided it's time to join in the fun officially. I also frequent the Forward Look forum. At the moment I live in sunny Queensland / Australia, but will soon be moving back to the cooler southern states so I can get the long pants & jackets out again. My auto obsession was forged at a very young age by my uncle who was into dune buggys & hot cars. My Father was in the Aussie Air Force & we lived in turbulent Malaysia during the Vietnam war, & when we returned to Australia in 1969, the first thing my Uncle took me to was a hot rod show...... The mind of a 7 year old is very impressionable, & to say that one single event left an indelible image of oversized wheels, chrome & candy flake would be a HUGE understatement. The first car I can recall falling head over heels for was when I was 12. Minding my own business, riding down the side of the road on my pushie (push bike), when this m***ive lump of American metal & chrome (that looked like 'The Batmobile') came towards me on the other side of the road & I almost fell from my bike craning my head back to see the rear end of this most beautiful thing I'd ever seen as it went past! Years later, I immediately identified that vehicle as a 1959 Dodge & swore that one day "I'll own one of those".... Well, it's only taken me nearly 40 years to achieve that boyhood dream, but finally I'm the proud owner of a SWEET 1959 Dodge Coronet D500 (my avatar). Along the way, I've had Morris Minors, Kombis & Beetles, dune buggys, Jeeps, a few Mazda rotary's & of course (as most Aussie young fellas do) a dozen or more Holdens of various years, but that first childhood image of the 1970 hot rod show was never far away. Probably 30 years ago, I bought the entire front end (from the firewall forward) with ch***is & fenders off a 1928 Citroen C4 roadster that was going to be my first Rod, but females intervened in my life & that one still resides in the shed awaiting it's turn. The most recent vehicle to be dragged home is the remains of an Aussie built 1937 Willys roadster pickup which has re-kindled the old rodders flame that has always dwelt within & now this lovely little rust bucket has jumped the line to be first cab off the rank & work has started. I'll post pictures when I learn how. Anyhow, I'm raving on a bit, but just wanted to introduce myself, give you all my background & say G'DAY.....
Hi again fellas & thanks for the warm welcome. I've been playing around in the appropriate section & I'm able to post pix of my ride (for those of you who can't read). lol.. 1959 Dodge Coronet with the 383 D500 power option & less than 60k original miles from new.
Thanks Mike.... I know you Swedes are into the Forward Look cars & this one's a peach. Just like the day she rolled off the line with a few subtle custom touches (note the 58 Dodge D500 hubcaps). Took a LONG time to find this one & it ain't going anywhere 'till after I'm pushing up daisy's. ....Glenn
Sweet look car, Welcome from and Aussie in the South (Victoria) Love the Eyebrows & the rear end of this car. The 59 was such a radical ostentatious design something we''ll never see again in an automobile
Its nice to heat from someone from overseas. You have the same bug as us. The only cure is another car. Do keep in touch maybe someday we will all meet. I like the 32 to 40 Fords.
