well, I finally did it. Yep, got ****ed in. joined a website, bought a car that's older than I am, doesn't run and isn't within 300 miles of my home. Don't have a garage, or tools, or a hope in hell of acquiring same for some time. Don't really have any hot-rodders for friends, but I do have a great tattooist who is. he's moving away at the end of the month. What I do have is p***ion. Enthusiasm. A life-long desire being fulfilled by sheer determination and grit, and hopefully not too many bounced checks... I mean warm flats of beer. I have a very muddy idea of what i want from this car, and am looking for guidance, ideas, and advice, in whatever form (even it it's to say 'give up, kid, and let the 'pros' handle this one... which i won't and can't do, but thanks for the encouragement anyhow!) The details (so far as i know them): 1953 Pontiac Catalina (or Chieftain?). it's supposedly a US model. 2dr hardtop (no post). flathead 6 and hydromatic ******. doesn't run, needs starter, exhaust, gas tank, lights, wipers and brakes for starters... Oh, and I live in what I imagine is the black-hole of the hot-rodding world: Victoria, BC Canada. Yep, that's on an island. Talk about a punch-to-the-gut! Yep, that's me: GutPonch pics and a thread to start the build when i figure out the photos for this site
Welcome Hank to the H.A.M.B. from MI (and NM) Feel free to post some pics of your ride. I am a newb at working on cars, but have found this forum and it's member to be a great help and a great bunch of people. Enjoy.
Don't think you're in the back hole everytime wife and I visit Victoria we spot some very interesting HAMB friendly rides. Not to mention lots of vintage British rides. You'll find a lot of like minded individuals as soon as you start searching for parts. Good luck with your poncho and you've come to the right place for advise.
