Curious to know what type of gear oil and grease for the 3rd member should be used for a 1950 ford shoebox?

For the past 55 years, always used 90 weight gear oil.

When re-***embling differentials I like to do it as close to dry as I can, lightly oil the pinion and carrier bearings then set up preload, contact pattern and lash. After you have satisfactory set up lube the bearing with gear oil and install the dif fill with oil and turn over several times. I never introduce "hard" grease to the dif. Your crown and pinion gears are well lubricated when dif is full of proper lube.
