I am in the process of bringing my 1941 Chevy coupe back to life. This car was turned into a straight axel, BBC Gasser in the early 70's then it was parked in a barn for 30 years. I am trying to bring it back to the way it was 35 years ago.
My rear tires are about 27" tall and I am trying to figure out what rear end gear ratio I should go with.

Also, is anyone else using one of these transmissions in a hot rod. I know it is a heavy duty truck 4-speed and I have got this one sitting around and I am debating on whether or not to use it. I know it should handle the torqe and HP but 1st gear is a granny low with no sincro's, but I figure with the correct rearend I should be able to use it as a driving/launch gear. Should I ditch this tranny?

    Any input would help.

    Thank you.

    These are the speeds you would have at 3500 rpm with a 3.08 rear . 13.93 low; 25.56 sec; 58.13 3rd; 91.27 4th. At 5500 rpm 21.89 low; 40.17 sec; 91.36 3rd; 143.43 4th. I'd ditch this tranny get a M-22 Muncie 4 speed or Richmond 5 speed.
