I have a GV-5 mounted on the back of a LA-727 Chrysler automatic in an E body. I have checked the pinion angle to ensure it is parallel with the transmission output shaft and have made sure the U joint working angles are less than 3 degrees with the weight of the car on the rear wheels. The drive shaft has been balanced FOUR times now. I am still getting a vibration at highway speeds. It seems that the GV has an internal oil pump and when this pump is moving up and down that movement is amplified because the tail shaft adapter is so long. You can feel it by placing your hand on the transmission/drive shaft hump as you drive down the highway. Any suggestions or advice on this???
GOOD LUCK getting ANYthing more than, "Check your pinion angle" "Have your driveshaft balanced" "Drive it using hose clamps to find run out" outta that bunch. Their "tech/customer relations" is useless as air brakes on a turtle! To me, the whole lot of 'em out there can go drink their own bath water! I argued with those sab's (sons-a-*****es) for over a year, with pictures, videos, sent the unit back, statements/balance readouts from two driveshaft balancers, (one, an hour and half away in Pittsburgh PA, the other, three + hours, one way, away in the southern part of the state! Plus, a read out from a electric motor rebuilder! GV wont' consider the ele motor rebuilder balance, because the U-joints are not installed.) all I get from them is the same, 'live recording' (oral diarrhea),"drive shaft HAS to be balanced, if the pinion angle is correct"! I had a video, showing the back of the unit vibrating, WITH OUT the drive shaft! They STILL blame the driveshaft balance! Y'know what they said!? "The driveshaft HAS to be instilled to counteract the overhang of the GV unit past the rear motor mount" I stick the DS back in, take another video showing the back of the unit vibrating. They said, "There has to be a "load" put on the unit. Can't have it jacked up with the rear wheels turning free like that" Took another video, driving on the road, going up Cheat Mtn, showing the vibration. Back to, "You balance the DS, that vibration will go away" The DS HAS been balanced! "Well have it done again, the balance shop must have not done it right" The balance shop verbal/written statements don't count to them. Nothing but one great big run-a-round circle, over and over! I had to finally give up. This vibration problem was NEVER going to get fixed! You never get to talk to the same person twice, out there. I ask for a person's name to speak to them. I'm told, "they quit", or "we had to fire them." My vibration is between 52-57 mph, reguardless of which gear (rpm's) it's in.
I've installed quite few gear vendors over the years.I never had a vibration problem. Most were electrical issues or mechanical shift issues. The most common problem was caused by folks basically using the engine to slow them down while the overdrive was engaged. The other thing Gear Vendor could benefit from is greater oil capacity.Even with the deep sump offered,I don't think it is enough.
