I couldn't have said it better! Thank goodness it was not a Mopar with a FORD or Chevy "Insert Part Here" that always gets me lol. That is really cool to see someone doing that.
That is true I really am getting one and learning a lot. Did anyone see the show Fast & Loud where they put a Chevy motor in a Dodge truck? I flipped out and shook my head and still can't believe someone would pay that much. I don't see why they didnt put a modern Mopar motor in it. I can understand putting modern suspension on a truck or car like that and had no problems with the crown Vic front end but when its going to be something people really see why put a LS1 motor in a truck like that...
A few pics of the Gene Chans engine and Corvette he customized when it was Brand New! His brother Vince still owns the car, and the pictures of the Vette are recent.
Wow just wow I'm blown away! The bucket is awesome and that Vette is just wow very cool. The top on the car looks to be covered in what is called gator grain. I know it was used on Mopars back in 1969-1970. I can't remember if a few cars in 1968 got that treatment or not but if its a Mopar material they used a very rare top on that corvette. I dig the front to the back of that car. Do you think those are 280Z headlights? That is just a wild car. What motor? Thanks for sharing the pics and keeping this thread going and keeping us and me learning about the brothers and their cars.
As far as the Vette goes, you have to remember that Gene was a little ahead of his time. The car was built before the 280z's showed up. Gene was a master with fiberglass, and the car was fully customized in his garage back in the early 70's. I did talk to Vince and he said he hasn't spoke to you, he can answer all your questions about the T or Vette. He loves to talk cars, he's just not much of a computer guy.
It sure looks like Gene was way ahead of his time. I have not had a chance to call Vince yet. My dad has been in and out of the hospital and doctors appointments. I'm also trying to finish up class and had to extend it and was hoping I wouldn't have to. As soon as I get caught up I'm going to call Vince and talk shop. I sure hope my dad is able to build a car with me but I don't know yet. He has dementia and it has progressed more and now he has a blocked artery in his neck. He still has that fire in his eyes to do a project and really I want that time with him. Sorry for a bit of a rant there been really stressed out. Holy shit, I just found this thread. It starts with one of the best T's I've ever seen and ends with one of the sickest Vettes. Mr Chan is fast becoming a hot rod god in my book. This young man had STYLE!
Okay I'm confused what was the nailhead in. Did Gene's T have a SBC. Nailhead and a Hemi. at different times?
Rebel he did have a SBC in it when Vince bought it from Gene. I think it's a few pages back it has some pics of Vince with the Bucket and a SBC.
Yes but on the last page there is a picture of a nailhead Buick V8 painted gold and looks like a red T cowl. That is the first I remember hearing of that engine on this thread.
Now I need to go back and look. I know the bucket was red to start with and then changed. Hmm maybe one of the guys will be a long and shed some light on it. This Bucket changed a lot it looks like over the years.
A most fantastic T, and now that 'Vette is just killer, too! The fixed headlights look similar to the Baldwin-Motion modified C3 vettes, and those look like Challenger tails... the custom vents and scoops... the obsolete radial T/A's and tri-bar spinners on gold five-spokes! Gene Chan went big, but the man clearly had CLASS! You're studying one of the greats here...
i have a the layout of the vette when it was in street machine magazine, but it wont let me upload the pics. as from the pics sanford and son posted you can tell he was ahead of his time by a few years. gene use to pick me up and take me to the local pizza joint in that car, didnt realize then what i was cruising in.
Very true this car and the man, men behind it are great people to learn from and I just really dig their style. How was it riding in the Vette? Tell us what motor lol and did Gene do any light to light in it?

its pretty much stock just a isky cam some headers and thats about it for the motor. gene and my dad ran isky cams in everything they built back then.
very cool photos. Gene sure had a good eye. The taillamps in the Vette look like 66 Ponty Catalina I reckon.

That's right I have the exact same issue on my 23 t and had to use helper coils mine just aren't chromed!!!
