Never got the chance to speak to Gene face to face, but did see him at a distance at some of the early SEGA events. He is truly an inspiration to all of us.
I wish him a speedy and complete recovery.

Very sorry to learn of this...I never knew him but his exploits are well-known to drag racers and fans...Hope he recovers fully.

  7. So sorry to hear. Prayers to Gene hop for a quick as possible full recovery. I’m blessed to have met Gene just one time when he ran a distributor on his machine for a dirt late model. Back in 1983. Would not let me pay him for it. A true gentleman.

Damn it. This is a tough read. Hope he gets well and gains the courage and confidence to get back in a HotRod.

Damn that must have hurt with those injuries. I can’t imagine something like that loading but we watching a guy get hurt bad loading when a ramp fell so we vowed never have that happen by getting a wench.
I’m slow to heal at 77. It’s going to take him some time and to follow whatever the doctors say no matter what. I’ll be praying for him….

When I talked to Melvin he told me he suggested winching the car on the trailer but that didn't happen. it was just a freak accident. HRP

Met Gene at a SEGA show he is truly a fine gentleman. Praying that he is going to have a speedy recovery. I have had 2 back surgeries and the first was a long slow recovery and I was in my late 40's.
Late 80's will be very rough if they have to operate.

I hate to see that, he is one of those racers that I have read about since first picking up a Hot Rod Magazine on the bookmobile in 5th grade. Praying that he heals and has a good story to tell.

This passage is on the column drop panel of the Willy's, it speaks volumes as to what kind of man Gene is.

Keep praying and wishing him the best. HRP

Just a heads up to those that are sensitive to the wrong words, there is a definite difference between a WENCH and a WINCH, "Your Mileage May Vary " Positive thoughts to Gene and his family for Gene to heal and get back into the game of Hot Rods !

Dunno, 41 GMC, a wench can pull you in any direction, maybe lead you wrong, too.
    What's the difference?
