As ya'll already know I really hated to put door bars in this original Gasser but we had to to be able to run it. I made the driver side swing out for Gene to get in and with ease. The passenger side will be bolted but easy to remove for maintenance. They are 4130 chrome moly 1 5/8" x .083[IMG]

Time for the news Gene will be inducted into the east coast drag racing hall of fame this October. I can't think of anybody that deserves to be there any more than Gene. I won't go into the names of the big time racers that he is joining there but ya'll can look it up. I think most of ya'll know what an honor this is for Gene. They call me yesterday to make sure the car would be there also. I started a thread on here to post your congratulations and tell about any memories you have of Gene Cromer and the Moonlighter. Here's the link for comments on this. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=767395

  10. This is fantastic news!Congratulations Gene!

I am so pleased to hear that Gene is being bestowed the honors he so richly deserves!

Gene has always been a guy I looked up to and my hero,I feel fortunate to be ablr to call him my friend.

Lets not forget all the hard work Quain has done on the Moonlighter, had it not been for Quains tanicity the Willys would probably still be in a gathering dust. Danny aka HRP

Congratulations Gene, so well deserved !

We must have some super-neat-o-T-Shirts made with pictures of your cars on the front and back.

I'm getting a little work but very little worth posting but here's a few things. This is the seat belt mounts you can see I had to add a bar to mount the inside one to I don't know what it was mounted to before I'll let ya'll guess I don't think safety was a factor back then. [IMG]

Chris I promised a close up of the little end of the trans tunnel a few weeks back so here it is. It was to small to get in the English wheel after I got the shape I wanted so it was hammer and dolly time.[IMG]

Dzus tabs welded on. At the rear of the trans tunnel I welded in a piece of sheet metal for safety if the drive shaft ever comes out, it will also act as tabs for the rear dzus fasteners.[IMG]

Thanks hot rod but I think the pics are hiding a lot when you see it in person don't look close. I'm now getting down to the little stuff where you work all day then look back and it don't look like there was anything done. Like a carpenter doing trim work.

I love seeing these pics and following the updates, but I also am in awe of the big picture. I mean, here is Quain Stott, a very successful professional racer who I'm sure is a busy man, volunteering his time and talents to help someone he barely knew before. Doing perfect work, accomplishing more by accident than I could if I worked on it day in and day out! Mr Stott, you are an inspiration for all of us!!

Zookeeper has nailed it perfectly. Quain is a professional, not just racer, but friend, craftsman, hot rodder, etc. Quain is my friend so it's easy for me to say that he's an inspiration. But when everyone reads this thread and takes time to understand the amount of time/effort he's put forth out of respect for Gene, well then you see what kind of person Quain is.

Once again Quain, your skills are amazing!
Your probably tired of hearing this from us guys that know and understand what custom fabrication is all about.
    But the truth is fact!

For your kindness, heart and skill, God has a special award for you my friend.

The end cap for the roll bar out riggers tacked in I had to cut the lower corner off the front bottom so it would not show when the front end is tilted up. The willys body kicks back just like the back of the fender I could have made a panel to cover it but that was not the way it was before. I know this looks weak but I plated it back with 4130 .090 plate [IMG]
