OK thanks, I thought it might be a stab at me for making the few changes I have made to the car.

Quain, again you do great work and fast. Just wondering are you going to be running ADRL or X-DRL this year with the Pro-Mod?

Gene might have to help me with the story on these wheels. When he sold the pro stocker in the early 70s he had took the wheels that were on the willys in the later 60s and put them on it. Probably because they were out of style and not worth much by then. A few months ago he was doing some tracking on the pro stocker when he got to the 2nd buyer he said I sold the car but I still have the wheels somewhere around here. He and gene made a deal, I had a buddy of mine (Steve Vick ) who lived in the area pick them up and pay for them and ship them to us, they got here today. We had to give $1000 for them but to have the original wheels that were on it in the later 60s back on it was worth it. It had 8" wide when it was first built then was changed to these in the later 60s.[IMG]

I rubbed some of the black off hoping to find the blue that Gene had painted I got to this gold. The gold is hard to get through so I haven't went any farther but I will.[IMG]

Like I said a few days ago I'm down to the little trim stuff but I'm taking a few pics anyway. This is a block of wood that I had to cut to form a 1/2 bead in a piece of sheet metal to fix a bad place where the floor will meet the top of the rocker it had been hacked out at some point.[IMG]

1/2 tubing pressed in the grove with the sheet metal under it to form the bead.[IMG]

Wow! It's amazing how parts keep showing up for the Moonlighter. It's been decades since those wheels were on the Moonlighter and they still look good.

  15. I haven't talked to Gene lately, were you guys able to get all 4 wheels? HRP

He got a set of fronts just like were on it but not the originals. They went with the pro stocker too but the dude didn't keep them when he sold it.

I have spent the evening going through this thread, I found it one of the best history lessons I've seen for a while I will be looking forward to the end of the story what a tribute to such a special time in the car culture.

More good news Chris Harper has signed on to do the paint and body work (A big part of the project). PPG is going to donate the paint, thanks to new comer to the project Chris Dunn. This news is a God send to Gene and I we have both been trying to figure out how we was going to come up with the money (By October) to have a nice paint job on the Moonlighter like it had. Now thanks to Chris Harper for the labor and PPG for the paint.

That is some great news, Quain.

  22. I am firmly convinced that it was fate that stepped in through you Quain to reach out to Gene and offer your services in bringing The Moonlighter back to bask in it's former glory.

You have also used your vast resources to help further this project by rallying others who feel strongly and compelled to sign on and help with the resurrection,Chris Dunn and the gang at Palmetto Rod Worxs is proof positive of that fact.

I recently met Chris at Masons Shop and he made a instant impression on me as being passionate about Hot Rods,,I also learned from Chris that his Dad and I are old friends.

Again,I want to personally thank you for all you have accomplished in such a short period of time.

Gene Cromer is and has always been a man I looked up to,,as I said earlier,,he was/is my hero and I look forward to his induction to the east coast drag racing hall of fame but most of all I look forward to seeing him driving The Moonlighter again! HRP

I am thrilled to hear it. That is another big hurdle out of the way for the Moonlighter and great job to who ever did the legwork and to the Body Shop and PPG for their help. I would have loved to see the smile on Gene's face when he got the news.

  24. Thats great... x2
Quain ...Seams not only are you a great fabricator and friend, but also a PR guy. Your sharing of the resurrection of a great warrior has been noticed.I think it also shows why your are so successful at your real job
