You will have to come to the Moonlighter's pit, it will probably be the only FE there. We speak FE fluently.

I stopped by and spent a hour or so with Gene & Ruth yesterday afternoon,Gene tells me he still hasn't seen the magazine so you better bring it with you tomorrow.

By the time Gene, and everybody else for that matter, thumbs through the magazine it will be worn out! :D

I am really looking forward to seeing some Gasser action,,see you tomorrow. HRP

Nobody will be watching the race everybody is going to be fighting over the magazine. It's 16 pages on Gene, Steve did the pics and Gerry Burger did the story it's the best. They got several plugs in for the Hamb members.

Quain , wish I could be there, but I'll just have to wait for the upcoming issue for my "Moonlighter" fix. Hope everyone has a great day! Carp

Just got back from the Greer Gasser meet and what a wonderful day it was. The weather was perfect and Gene was still in the eliminations when I left. It was worth the trip to read the Rodders Journal article. They truly did the justice Gene deserves in those 16 pages. One picture is of a young Gene and Ruth on his new Harley-Davidson "74" in 1950.

Rob, I'm glad I got to talk with you and your parents. I think it's great that you like these old gassers. Several of these cars are going to the Meltdown Drags in Byron, Illinois in July. Maybe you can talk your mom and dad into a road trip, they seem to be enjoying themselves. Here's the website so you can start working on mom and dad. http://meltdowndrags.com/

Vince your right. you should have been there. We made the trip and spent the day in the pits with them. The weather was great and Gene and Ruth are super nice people. And Melvin is Melvin you have to be around him to understand. I think if they would have had major sponsors in the day, the two of them would have been as big as some of the others. Thats what makes rodders journal and all the other accolades so sweet and so deserved.

Don't miss the fall race at Greer, throw a 4 speed in your sedan and go down. I will be there with mine.

Rob nice meeting and talking with you and your family.

This is a young bushy haired man still in high school. He is building a 70's model ford truck and hoping to build a car some day. There is hope for our hobby.Rob has a supportive family who cuts there vacation short to come and meet Gene and the moonlighter. And Quain and company definitely made an impression on them.

The idea of auctioning off the original seat cover came about when it was picked up off the table at Dennis Glenn's trim shop after he had made the new covers.

The idea behind it was to try and raise some cash to help in the restoration project and Gene agreed,,it was being auctioned off right here on the Hamb.

Quain didn't know anything about it until it had already had some bids, so Quain bid on it and was passionate about Gene keeping it but was out bid and then several other members, including myself decided to go in together and win auction and donate the seat cover back to Gene.

We pooled the money, won the auction and gave the seat cove to Gene.HRP

    Great video. E
ven though I have followed this story from the beginning, I continue to be impressed by the story of the "Moonlighter" and the ones involved in it. Some day I will meet you people and it will be my pleasure to shake your hands and say "Well Done"! Your fan, Carp

Today while my dad was driving me to work he tells me that he really wants to build a 62-64 falcon gasser with me, one that is period correct and he is even coming up with name ideas and such, so maybe one day within the next 5 years the two guys (my dad and I) from the great white north , will run with the south east gassers. I just need to be constantly telling him it needs to happen , also good chance I will see you guys at meltdown this year !

Colt, are you seeing pictures on the first few pages or this page? I have look at a lot of pages and most of the pics from the beginning are not showing. All I see is a little black square with an X in it. I can see the pics of the seat cover, but the build pics are gone.

Looking back at the old pages, I do see lots of pictures missing, but not on this page. Good thing I saved the build pics in my desktop "Moonlighter Folder".

Thanks for the pic links Seadog. I hope all the thread pics come back in time. This thread just seems historically important with the story of a man, his machine, family, friends, inspiration, and accomplishments.

You guys going to Steel in Motion ... make sure those camera batteries are charged up, we need to see some more good gasser action ... especially Gene and the Moonlighter.
