Congrats you guys did an amazing job of finishing this car! I love the color and the look of the outside. Thank you for sharing all of the great fabrication pics and the wonderful story of Leland and his bride. Outstanding stuff! I know this isn't going to be popular.......BUT....... I just think that the interior looks out of place, a little too monochromatic looking for my taste. In my crazy head I think that it should have cool 2 color tuck and roll type interior that provides some contrast to the exterior. Just my 2 cents.
Hey.....Whoaaaa.....back the truck up!!!!!! We ain't done yet...... We're close, but not quite there. Remember, we're being watched, and every post counts. As for the interior.....I agree, I'd love to see a white roll with contrasting smooth, but we can only do so much, and actually, in person, this stuff doesn't look too bad. It all comes together with the 'burple' on the outside. The original seats were modified to have the butt further down, to compensate for the chop. It was done by Hans Kretz here in our little valley, as was the top material, and I cannot say enough about the great work he did. Stay tuned!!!!!!
"Leland Grantz is not a hot rodder, but he sure is a custom guy". Seems I made that statement just a few short months ago. I sure did not realize when I me Leland that I would be in store for several months of hard work. It didn't take much for me to realize that this was way beyond my expertise to tackle, so I groveled before my friend Nick. He accepted the challenge and the rest is history. Leland and his young bride, Margene, are tickled beyond words, at how this puppy has turned out. As you may recall, Leland could never quite make up his mind as to how the grille area should be completed. So Nick and I started scrounging parts and ideas, and the result speaks for itself. The lowtop lifttop heads for the local muffler shop tomorrow to git the tailpipes corrected, then it's off to Lozangeleez on Wed. My profound thanks go out to all who have helped in this endeavor, especially Nick. Remember, he and his brother Ken own a machine shop, and quickchange build and repair shop, so all work was done on weekends and evenings. By the way, that's Ken's captivating coupe facing Leland's Chevrolowster in the pics. Enough said, cast you peepers upon the pictures, then respond, so that Leland and Margene can see that what they have maintained for all these years has come to something for all to enjoy.

Unbelievable! It's even better than I could imagine through all the build pics. And I was in awe then. It has the feel of a legit 50's custom 10 fold. Which it should because it is. The car will no doubt be covered with lookers in L.A. You sir have accumulated a ton of good karma for this job. Congratulations and good job.

Hey guys, thanks for the quick comments. Nick and I knew from the git go that Leland's slinky sled had all the elements of a fifties custom. Not like the ones that simply have changes for the sake of changes, but changes for styling improvements. I will say once again, Leland is a true hero to me and should be to all custom crazies everywhere. He guided Gene Winfield in the right direction throughout the original build. I can say without a second thought, that the work involved in making the original changes is absolutely mind boggling. The number of welds, all within an inch or so, and all gas welded, is overwhelming. Gene is the master, period. Nick just sent the following picture to post, which shows a great angle, and low pose. There is really no place on this kempster where I thought, we should change that.........
CABONG, Nick, Leland and Margene and all the other people who worked on this car....... As one of the many who have been watching this thread from day one, thank you for allowing all of us to be involved. Car is perfect just as it sits. To add anything would be to take away from it in my opion. The final workmanship is a credit and continuation of Mr Winfields original craftsmanship. And the top is the jewel on the crown. Looks stunning I can't wait to see the look on Lelands face when he lays eyes on it. Everyone involved in the cars evolving restoration should be proud of what has been achieved.

Wow! I've been following this epic journey from the first post, and I'm pleased as punch that the car turned out so nice. And I doubted when you said that the top "made" the car, but now I see that it is absolutely true. The sharp white color and sleek profile are dead on. This is one for the history books, fellas, and I'm glad I got to see it happen through the HAMB.
To see the car finished is such a treat. The proportions are wonderful and yes, the top is perfect for it. Congrats to all who put in so much work to see this beauty restored and revitalized. Great story and a great car. Well done folks. Take a bow, you deserve it.

The view with Ken's coupe really says it all. It is hard to believe that the vert began life with the same body lines as the coupe and one forgets all the parts/pieces incorporated into the original build. This has to be one of my favorite custom cars, right up there with the X-51. Great job!
