Never seemed to have this much trouble before. Checking internals on a holley 80457-1 wishing not to tear gaskets and, they are stuck and stubborn to get off any easy chemical solution? What do you guys use on stubborn gaskets?
I use either a very fine Emory cloth wet or a small tooth brush size wire brush . It should come off with the wire brush but if you have to use a Emory cloth make sure you use on a flat piece if something . I will ***ume you are talking about the metering block or the bowls . If it's the bowls then use on flat surface and do the entire bowl all at once . Retro Jim
I can't think of any chemicals vs diesel fuel soak, or soapy hot water, probably have to detail the cleanup with a razorblade, the self stick Holley gaskets can be treated with chapstick for the next removal
I had some of that Permatex gasket remover and it worked great, at least on paper gaskets. Must have used it all, and now my flathead block has some seriously attached old metal head gasket pieces. I went to O'Reillys and he said they don't sell it anymore in California He also said its just paint stripper anyway. Local Napa Auto has something but I wonder if it's some eco friendly stuff that's about at powerful as dish soap. Don't care to use abrasive discs and get a bunch of that stuff around (it's an ***embled block) or harm the surface. Going to be a bear getting these old head gasket chunks off from around the studs, which I am loathe to remove.
