I've had this car disassembled for about 8 years now, and in the meantime have gotten older myself. In the process I've forgotten how the generator mounts to the front of the block (312 Y-Block). Does anyone have an image or picture they can share that shows how this should go? Appreciate no "it's not rocket science" replies.
The bracket attaches to the top and second timing cover bolts and generator hangs down. The adjusting arm attaches to the 3rd or 4th which works. Google 1956 Ford Thunderbird engine photos.
Thanks for that info. I thought it was something like that but wasn't sure. I had looked for this detail on the internet, but only found pictures of the engine compartment, without enough detail to answer my question. There also appear to be different mounting hardware than mine in some of those pictures. Thanks again.
Well, the advice from Jimmy Six was close but not what worked on my '56 Thunderbird. Once I got the front motor mount on and the main generator mount, I found an additional hole in the motor mount that was actually intended for the slotted bracket that allows the fan belt tension to be adjusted. See image attached.
Those front devices are called steady rests. Many have been eliminated in cars for the room needed. Glad you figured it out.
