i am wanting to get rid of my generator and put an alternator on my 223 and i was wondering what type of alternator would be the best for it. also i want to update my master cylinder from the original single vessel to one with two, what years will bolt up to a 62'
Necessity is the mother of invention... When updating the wiring, tis' prolly easyest to use a 80's style GM alternator. Brackets are easy to fab, wiring is simple, and it has an internal volt regulator. Plus, if it dies it's cheap to replace. Hell, a handfull of hillbilly's give'em away at halloween instead of candy. But, to be traditional, it's kinda a no-no. Some alternator shops can rebuild generators for 12v applications. Then you can have modern convenience with traditional style. As far as brakes go...I'm told S-10 brake assemblys work well...but there isn't gonna be a quick replace no matter whatchya do ( I don't think). It'll take some imaginashkin'. I think that's what anyone will tellya.
Just be sure to match the wiring size to the alternator's output capacity. Probably not an issue for a hot rod without a lot of modern conviences, but it adds up pretty quick sometimes. Delco 10SI - common - cheap - durable.
