If you saw my other post with pictures of my modified, I have it running and driving, but I still need to finish some wiring. I am just running off the battery right now. One thing I have a question with is the wiring for the generator. On my generator (off a 59 Ford truck, should be 12 volts) I have one terminal on the back plate, without any label. Then on the side of the generator case I have two terminals labeled "G" and "F". My voltage regulator, snagged off the same 59 truck in the junkyard, has the three terminals labeled as the following: "Arm", "Fld" and "Bat". Can someone tell me which connection on the generator goes to which connection on the voltage regulator? I am guessing the "F" on the generator is the field terminal on the regulator. But the others???? Help please, muchos gracias
Here goes,A on REG to A on GEN, F on REG goes to F on GEN, B on REG goes to Bat side of starter solenoid. G on GEN Grounds to REG mounting screw. The A terminal on REG feeds your Amp guage, if used. I got this information from the 59 Ford truck wiring diagram in National Service Data manual. Hope this helps, Billy
Shoebox72, thanks, I follow most of what you wrote, but I am still a bit confused. I do not have an "A" on the generator. Is this the terminal on the end of the case, the one that faces the bellhousing? Also you state the "A" terminal on the regulator feeds the ammeter, I guess the ammeter is spilced in between the regulator and generator? I wish I had a wiring diagram for a generator! Then I wouldn;t have to ask these questions, thanks for the help.
The Yes, the A terminal on REG goes to the stud on the rear of the GEN. It also shows that the A & B wires are heavier guage than the F-field wire. It shows 2 Wires coming off the REG A terminal, 1 thick wire going to the back of the GEN, and 1 thinner one going to the AMP guage. I'm Glad I kept this huge-ass book next the computer, covers 54-62,and its got about 6000 pages. Really. If you need any more help let me know. Billy
Just wanted to give an update report. Shoebox72 had excellent directions and now my generator is charging like it's supposed to, and not just a belt tensioner. Thanks for the help.
