Wouldn't any later model GM generator work? Just wondering. I've stayed 6 volt since I haven't had any problems with it.

  3. Yes Fatass I think they will but i was just wondering if any of you have a cross reference number for a model # that is 12v I can get at the local parts store.

i stayed six as well but for abouit 80 buicks a shop can rewrap your genereator to 12 volt. and match you up a new voltage reg that will work..

    Direct 12V interchanges, all 30A:

    1102002
    1102005
    1102008
    1102011
    1102014
    1102022
    1102021
    1102065
    1102010 (factory rebuilt #)

The above cover various 53-6 Buick, Cad, Chev, Olds, Packard and Stude. List is from my 58 Hollanders. Many others will fit but pulleys are different or current is higher.
NOTE that these are all from V8's (Stude used same on flathead 6), no straight 8 Buicks were 12V but if you can find any one of them and see if the mounting is the same your all set.
Otherwise its $50-80 at most motor shops to get new field windings installed in your old one.
