Technical Gennie Shifter issues

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by thebearded1!, Feb 17, 2020.

  1. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up in case they use a Gennie Shifter about some issues I've had. Fortunately thier customer service has been excellent with assistance and sending new parts. I understand they are a small company and things happen but it turned a shifter install into a several week project.

I started off ordering a gennie low stick for mopar/ford from summit on Jan 20 It arrived quickly and had the 2 selector plates for ford transmissions but was missing the mopar selector plate. I called summit and they sent me another shifter so I could get the part I needed and send back the rest. The second shifter arrived and was also missing the mopar selector plate. This time they contacted gennie to have the mopar selector plate sent to me. I ended up calling Gennie Shifter to give them a heads up that multiple shifters were missing the mopar selector plate. He appologized and said next time just contact them (Gennie Shifter directly) for missing parts and he will get it sent out. He said summit is reluctant to contact the manufacturer and he has had issues with summit where a quick call to gennie shifter would have solved things. After finally recieving mopar selector plate it did need some light filing to remove a burr that was preventing the shifter from going in park, no big deal it was a really easy fix. But when I went to bolt everything together the hole in the shifter arm for the linkage was too small for the bolt. I called Gennie and they were surprised by this and are sending me another shifter arm and I'm going to send the other back so they can see the issue and fix it. Probably could have drilled it out but I don't have a drill press and I can wait to just get the new arm. Another small heads up is the instructions may state there are 2 springs for the shifter handle, 1 for 12" shifters and the other for 16-23" shifters. They now only use 1 spring for all shifters but forgot to update the instructions.

Again they have had great customer service so I'm not bashing the company just giving everyone a heads up in case you run into issues or are on a time crunch. Otherwise the shifter mechanism seems great and I hope it works out well for my project. I like the fact that you can make your own shifter handle and use any shifter knob you'd like. 20200217_113702.jpg 20200217_113730.jpg
