Gennie vs Lokar what's your preference?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Jamin, Nov 16, 2007.

  1. Ok my son is the General Manager at Gennie Shifter, but....

We put alot of cars togeater over the years. I bought a 40 Coupe project car once that came with a Lokar so I used it.

Oh man did it make the buzzing noise that everyone complains about.

So here is what did to quiet it down. Remove the ****on in the shift knob and you see there is a nylon ring that is supposed to keep the ****on from rattling in the knob.

Replace that with a O-Ring and lube it up real good, presto no more buzzing.

    Hope this helps.

  3. I bought my Lokar shifter and had it for about eight or nine years before I had my truck drivable. I live out in the country so I would take the old girl out for TEST drives..chuckle. Well after every second or so test drive I would have to tighten the nut at the bottom of the shifter. I did this about four of five times. Then the shifter did the wet noodle thing. Not accptable. I thought what the hell the shifter has maybe 100 miles on it. I emailed Lokar since I bought it from the factoy. Told them the storey. They emailed me back and asked me to phone them at such and such number. I had told them in the email that I didn't have a bill of sale but did have the packing slip that was sent with the shifter. I had given them the name on the packing slip. I phoned and the guy says to me to send the shifter back to them and they would see what they could do. Two weeks later a new shifter arrives at my door prepaid. Thats what I call standing behind your product. I have had no rattling issues. Thanks for the tips on how to fix them if they do occur. I think I'd buy another Lokar..cause they looked after me.

I have both. And they are both great for each application. I have the swan neck on the '51 and that works/looks great. I have the lokar on the '67, and that too looks and works great. As far as install, they both went in without a problem.
