Hopefully it will not change too much. Visiting this strip is like stepping back in time. The lack of amenities and it’s basic no frills layout is what gives it character. I guess they could improve on the food offerings. RacerX once told me not to eat the hot dogs because the red came off in your mouth!
Note the difference in the bridge design between the two photos, the top photo has the original bridge, the “modern” bridge is shown in the second picture. On race days the crowd would sit on the bridge with their legs hanging just above the cars in the burn out area. I have also seen spectators sitting on the round logs that are next to the burn out/ starting line areas, literally 3’ from a car that is launching. What a hoot!
Let us hope for all of us that the new owner does appropriate upgrades to keep the drag strip going into the future.
No upgrades needed. It's perfect as it is. I have raced there several times. It's Basically been the same since 1961. It obviously works. Why mess with success.
The information posted is false. The track has not been sold. Tyler the grandson running the track has confirmed it this morning. There have been talks only on a outside investor providing money for improvements. No major changes to the track are planned.
This is great news. Never been there but the track is an absolute legend. It should be on the National Register of Historic Places.
The cat walk was changed because the original rotted away making it unsafe. The new one retains the microphones to blast the burnout noise over the pa. Between the time of the old and new cat walk the track just didn't look right with nothing there. I glad Tyler decided to put it back on.
Looks like a mass casualty event waiting to happen, always has. Ask @Ryan , I trust his take on things like this
I talked with Bonnie Ray and Tyler Russom today. Sale is not complete, if it happens track will still be run by Tyler, George Rays grandson.
There are a few tracks like this still around here in USA , ( Freedom ) I Hope any Person showing Up , entering the Property , Knows & Understand ""Own Risk ""18 & over ,So its your decision!! keeps Lawyers Out of It , Tracks like this is not for every one , The pictures are not misleading , ""True Out Law track "" So if you have Doubts, Do Not Enter the Premises/Property!!!
the locals know how to stay safe. no hand holding needed there. i have run there several times. each time its a thrill. a word of caution to the out of towners. before you run go to the starting line and watch some cars go down the track. take it easy on the first pass. Dont try to set your personal best on the first hit.
There is talk of a nostalgia race there this fall. that would be great the bugs and heat would be out of there.
