I'll use delrin between the leaves. But, for now I've got bigger fish to fry. I took the truck out to the first local cruise in today. On the way home, I got a big exhaust leak. It was so loud, I thought the world was coming to an end. And I thought it was loud before with the short pipes? :D

So tomorrow I've got to pull the intake and exhaust back off again for the third time and replace the gasket. It's a fel pro and in my opinion, a piece of shit. It was a new gasket when I installed the split exhaust a week ago. When I pulled it the next day to fix a vacuum leak, the paper had already started to blow out around two exhaust ports. I'm not taking anymore chances, I'll get one of Langdon's thick gaskets. The downside is I'll have to wait.

Oh well, one step forward, two steps back. I knew that coolant flush went too easy!:D

I should also mention today wasn't a total let down from the exhaust leak. I got a lot of funny looks from a bunch of muscle car guys when I'd drive by at the cruise in. For one, it's pretty loud. And second, it sorta sounds like a V8 that's missing on three cylinders. Pretty funny to see the expressions, from the muscle car guys' confusion to the smile it put on the old timers' faces. Priceless. :D

I also ran into an old buddy here from the hamb I hadn't seen in a while, Irace2win, a fellow chevy truck guy and hot rod builder to boot. I ran into a couple of other buddies and had a decent time despite the proliferation of Camaros and imports. Not that I don't like Camaros and imports, I was just hoping to see more real hot rods. There weren't very many.

So I got the split exhaust off the other day. I put a straight edge on it and it's not straight. And the divider welded inside to split it fell out. I've decided to just get a set of Fentons. I'm still working on polishing. I think the intake and the air cleaners will be ready by the time the Fenton split exhaust gets here.

If you remember, the stock exhaust was broken in two pieces. So I don't have anything to run until the Fentons get here. I'm going to order them next week. Maybe I'll try to use some of this down time to pull the doghouse off and paint the firewall and engine. Maybe even pull a couple of leaves out up front and clean up and paint the frame up there. What ever I get done, it won't be easy and will take longer than expected. That's for sure. :D

my stock manifold had a cracked flange, or i'd send it to ya! i know you like doing stuff twice, but do the springs when you do the drop axle... i ended up doing the same shit 3(maybe 4) times- remove leaves, then added the drop axle, then replaced the stock springs w/ new drop springs.... i felt like an idiot dragging out for weeks what i could have done in a weekend! i just got my new gaskets, motor mounts and flywheel so i hope to have my engine/ t-5 in the chassis in the next week or so... i'm thinking i'm gonna have the same exhaust manifold issue as you- i also see fentons in my future!

Hahaha, funny guy! :D Franke couldn't hold Fay's (a.k.a. Fuck All Y'all, a.k.a. King Of Trucks) purse while she tried on slips at Belks.

I'm kind of let down, I was on such a roll. But maybe this'll give me a chance to do some other stuff in the meantime.

Thanks a bunch for the offer! I appreciate it! My buddy Delton (Hot Damn! here) offerend to loan me his, but I'm just going to wait it out so I don't have to do it again, lol! Which is probably why I won't end up pulling the leaves, thanks for reminding me. :D

I can't wait to see yours up and running! Thanks again!

I got my heater parts cleaned up with a wire wheel and ready for paint. I'm trying to figure out now how to wire it. I've got a thread going, check it out and offer me some tips, lol. :D

    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=456927

For some reason, there's no mention of heaters or wiring them in the factory shop manual? Pretty much everything else is covered except heaters? Strange indeed!

Here's a quick pic of the blower motor during wheelin'...

In the next couple of days, I'll get them in primer and paint and then installed. Just in time for spring and no more need for heat!:D

Dunno if this will help or not, but here's a pic of the one in my '57 pickup. As far as I know this is the original deluxe heater but not 100% sure about the motor as I doubt if they used wire nuts on the assembly line!

I think so. I can't find a diagram, but I think the fan comes off so you can get to two bolts that hold the motor on?

Thanks a lot! That helps a bunch. I should have wires coming out of that hole, lol. I've got a good Standard motor too. I'm not sure if it's the same size, if it is I can swap out. No big deal. If not, I'll have to open up the motor and fix the terminal.

Sooooo, I need three wires and some wire nuts. :D

Thanks a bunch! Encouraging words keep me going when I get down not being able to drive it or having heartaches from whatever I'm doing at the time that is never as easy as it should be! :D

    Hope this helps.

I ended up soldering the wire directly to this post on my PU. works fine. Just remember to leave enough 'slack' that you can cut the wire if you need to remove it and still be able to re solder the connection.

Today I want to talk about inspiration. It can come in many forms. Maybe it's some guy here I don't even know posting pics of some hugely complicated project that he tackles with ease. Maybe it's some thread here with a car that has that certain color that when you see it stirs something deep inside. Maybe it's some simple words of encouragement when I can't drive or when something's never as easy as it should be. Sometimes it's something cool to read I found while researching.

Most of all, it's the guys here always willing to give good advice and help out how ever they can! I appreciate this inspiration the most. Sometimes it's your buddies coming over to help out even when it takes longer than it should. Sometimes it's some guy on the other side of the country helping you find a part you'd never be able to find any other way. The common thread is the people here. I couldn't do what I do without all you guys! So thanks!

    Color...

My buddy Delton's (Hot Damn!) sweet full tilt 235. Every time I see this engine or hear it run, it makes my pants tight. :D

So thanks again for all you do! You may not realize it, but when you post some thread about some mundane part of your project, or some ancient magazine article, or pictures of a car show, you're inspiring some guy half way round the world to keep at it!

I just realized what that connection is. It's one that uses a slide on connector. There were ones like it on my truck originally. I think there was one on the original water temp sender.

Love the idea of the color choice. That green is really nice and opens a lot of options on accent colors.

Let me build your truck in my head for a sec....

-Metallic Green Body with white and gold pin-striping around body lines
-True Gold painted motor with polished intake and chromed exhaust.
-Offy Valve cover with gold painted valleys
    -Cloth Wire
-Satin or semi gloss black painted wheel wells trim in engine bay
-White firewall with gold & green pin-striping
-Chrome or Stainless exhaust that runs up the bed sides
-White Wide Firestones with '56 Olds Flipper caps with ribs painted gold
-Chromed Grille like your pops and bumper up front
-Split Poncho bumper out back with license plate mounts in center
-Pearl White Interior with Black carpet and Green inserts on the seat. Perhaps some Diamond pleats in the center to break it up.
-Rich Dark red stained wood bed floor or natural with heavy coats of shellac to make it glossy
-Lowered suspension but not too low. Probably where your old truck sat.
-Chromed Steering column with pearl white wheel

    Here is your inspiration dude.

Thanks! You're welcome in NC any time! I'd like to make it to some of the cooler shows one day. Like Austin and Viva. Viva's probably out due to sheer distance, but Austin may be a possibility.

It sounds better than it looks! It's been bored, head milled, Howard rough idle cam, dual split 1 3/4" exhaust, two carbs. It's got a killer idle and on the gas, it sounds soooo nice!

Thanks! Any way you could get a pic of the connector?

Glad my jibber jabber could be of some help! :D Seriously though, there is some killer work going on around here!

Dude, get out of my head! That's pretty much right on except the steering wheel and the rear bumper! Green for the money and gold for the honey.

I should also add that I've decided I'm not going to run Fentons. My buddy Delton turned me on to a different split exhaust that is a little less common. They are much cooler in my opinion because they address the Fenton's shortcomings. For one, the new Fentons exits aren't in line. They exit at different angles. This is just an aesthetic preference, but much can be said for visual harmony. Second, each outlet uses a different gasket. What? Why? I've read it was so back in the day, you only had to build one side of the exhaust and reuse the factory exhaust. Why not just make the other outlet like the stock one too? And finally, they address the issue of Fentons becoming the "belly button sbc" of inlines. That is, they're not Fentons. I'm going to order them next week then I'll let you know what they are. :D

That's my buddy Delton's (hotdamn) '54 Chevy. I've always been partial to '53-'54 Bel Airs, I had a '53. Something about that body, and the dash. And they look so proper lowered. Anyway, Delton's car is one of my favorites. And it's because of that engine. Awesome, killer, loud, fast, rumpity, copper gold, fully built, I can't find enough words to express how close to perfection that engine is for me. And I know the heartaches he's been through to get it to where it is. I can dig it. And it's kind of rare to see one that's not chopped anymore. He keeps talking about maybe chopping it and I keep trying to talk him out of it, lol. I love them chopped, but I think I love them not chopped more. And I love that car!

I was talking about inspiration the other day. Here's some stuff I like. All different styles and for different reasons. But all the same spirit.

Kopper Kart (this might be the excellent clone?). I know this sounds dumb, but I don't like much of the body mods. I like these trucks unchopped and not quite so radical body wise, maybe a grill change or simple headlight treatments. The interior on the other hand is full on noice! Covers for the pedals! Details! It's all in the details. The devil is in the details. Et cetera.

Lil Nugget. Yes it's a F*RD. But it's glory days of the custom truck period and sports a full on Eddie Martinez interior complete with TV and record player. And it's fully gold flaked.

    Then...

    Now...

These are not custom at all, but when I think "shop truck", this is what comes to mind...

    Dig the rake!

Franke. Legit shop truck history. Original paint. I love everything about this truck!

    More stuff I like...

Another shop truck. The blackwalls, black wheels, and dog dish caps along with the stance and the snow make me smile. The fresh tracks in the snow say "driver" which makes me smile even more.

And speaking of drivers, subtly awesome. Black with just enough chrome to set it off and a killer down low.

So fresh and so clean interior on a dirty truck. I dig the turquoise fogging!

I'm Temple Grandin! I see things in pictures!

Not a truck, but she was seen riding in a '59 chevy and drove a '65 in the movie. But, killer problem solving inspiration. Think outside the box and all that.

OMG!!!!111!!! I *heart* the striping on the dash of this AD.

I dig the F*ORD grill on this. And the headlights are a nice change. I like the way they're totally vertical instead of tilted like a lot of others.
