New here from El Paso, Texas. Been collecting whatever old sheetmetal I can find around these parts the past 7 or so months to finally put some kind of ride together. My first hot rod will be made of several car brand parts and some home-built parts but I wanna keep it low buck and fun. Here's a couple of pics of my parts pile. The old race car is a Supermodified dirt car straight outta the 50s that's ugly but pretty interesting (to me anyway). It's all Chevy underneath with the remnants of a 29 Ford body. I scooted a 29 Essex cowl and tail section together to get something that resembles a roadster body. My 27 Ford coupe is missing the tail so I may make it into a little extended cab truck or maybe a very short coupe.
looks like you've got your work cut out for ya......some good looking projects... welcome to the HAMB!! there's much info here!!
Check out this front end on this old dirt track car. It's a late 50s Chevy truck axle that was converted from two leaf springs to one transverse leaf spring and mounted with a suicide perch. Gussets were welded on each side where the axle bends upwards to accept the spring mounting bolts with a pivot on the front left side and some links on the front right to allow the spring to stretch out. The perch has two vertical bolts for adjusting the ride height from side to side. It has some short radius rods that look like they could have taken a beating on the track with no problem. Thought I'd post this because I thought it might be interesting to some and it's a good example of old school ingenuity from back in the day.
