1948 and earlier? It's always bothered me that people for whatever reason (lies, ignorance, or sold a bill of goods) would bring 1949 and newer cars & trucks to an NSRA event that is posted 48 and earlier! A lot of vehicles were sold in the year before the actual model year, that doesn't mean it's a year older. The Henry J was 1951 to 1953, the R series Studebaker truck started production in mid year 1948, but as a 1949, ask any Studebaker Drivers Club member, the bullet nose Studebaker front end will fit on a 47 through 52 body with minor work, one of the bullet nose cars had pictures of the build, there wasn't a single 1948 part in any of the pictures! As you can see from the other pictures, any purest like myself hates the new 30 year rule, don't get me wrong I like and own models up into the 70's, but this is (WAS) a Street Rod Event. Next year I wonder how many will try to sneak an 82 model in and claim it's a 1980??
Write the NSRA and their major sponsors if you disagree with the new ruling. I just got back from the Nats and mailed my second letter plus emailed Walker radiator. The only thing any of them will concede to is a hit in the pocket book!
Yeah I definitely agree. What about those fiberglass cars and trucks that don't even look like a real car? They get on my nerves too. Trailer queens, fiberglass cars, post-1948...there will always be something controversial to talk about. I definitely don't agree with the 30 year rule and will always be against that. After talking to NSRA reps, it sounds like it's out of our hands though.
Stop paying dues is the only thing that will get their attention. When they loose their free work force at the events that may get their attention. DD
I think everybody should relax and see what happens in 2010. I have never seen so many people with their panties in a bunch. I did some later models there and some venders selling Camaro parts. But I really think it is too early to throw in the towel. Just my two cents. Don
I know this 30 yr and older bit is getting old on this site, But if you ever are for or against something it is your right to speak up. It was said once before on this site, " what if Ryan opened the HAMB to tuners, 4x4's etc," you guys would have a fit!! Well it is the same with NSRA, weather you like it or not. This new venue sucks, and I will no longer be a member of NSRA after this month. Same if the HAMB would change, I would move on and find something else. Those of you who do not care well quit putting down the guys who dislike the new rules, it's our opinion and we are free to express it, the only way to change something is to voice your opinion. If you like the new rules, by all means attend their events, but from what I noticed at L-Ville last week, the majority is against. JMO and those who don't like it can kiss my ass!
Well said! I just got off the phone with NSRA and after several years of membership I told them I will not renew due to the 30 year rule! At least they won't get my money!
I dont understand their thinking behind the rule change. I cant get my '32 Ford into a tri-five show or a mopar show(Nor would I want too). just saying. I just dont get the logic. How will this affect all the state laws that have Code's for street rods? I have been a member since 1988 and I doubt I will renew. It will be interesting to see what will happen in the next couple years with the organization.
I heard that Walker is going to start making fiberglass pintos. I put my name on the list for the first one. Can't wait. Later, Dick
I just got off the phone with NSRA too, ...................................NO, not really, but if I had, one thing's for sure. They don't give a shit what I think since my Jalopy(s) will never resemble a Street Rod, and that's because I like them like I built them. And I don't give a shit what NSRA does. It's thier club, I don't belong to it, and it ain't any skin off my ass. I'll continue to set up in their swap meet, as long as they let me, but if they should ban me that won't be any loss either.
Haha man you make it sound like NSRA's got it out for you and y'all have some personal beef or somethin. Thats great you build jalopies that don't resemble street rods and you're evidently really proud of that. I have a street rod that doesn't look like a jalopy, not that I have anything against them but thats just what I've built. I built it the way I like and you built yours the way you like, but you don't hear me bashing on "jalopies" or "traditionals" or whatever. Oh and NSRA isn't gonna ban you from a damn swap meet as long as you keep givin them that green stuff.
I really don't care what you drive. Street rod, rat rod, ford, chevy or mopar. Just get it out and drive it. NSRA is in it's own little world. As I said and heard before vote with your money.
