I need a Texas title for my basket-case Model A that came with a bill of sale. Unfortunately, the frame has no discernible VIN.

So, can I make up my own frame number and stamp it into the frame? Graft a number into my frame from a donor frame? Title the car without a frame number? Buy a mail-order title?

I'm asking because I don't think I'll live long enough to get a definitive, non-contradictory solution from the TX DoT.

    Is the engine number visible?

Some states will issue a new modern vin tag to rivot on, and some states will tell you to take a hike. Gotta check with your state to know what to do.

Up to you, but it’s better dealing with the department of transportation than the department of corrections.

  5. The reason you can't find a number on the frame is the numbers were on the engine on Model A's.

  6. Is the body on the frame?

Model #s are normally; but not always on left rail under cowl.

If there isn't one; and unless a lot has been done to your frame, the donor frame with numbers you mentioned could replace your frame.

If that isn't viable; Model A frames are pretty common and you should be able to find one with numbers; maybe even find someone's titled project and sell it off retaining the title.

You need to work through the DOT.
What you are asking is not legal..... stamping your own numbers etc.
    Contact your states DOT.

The H.A.M.B. doesn’t allow Titles wanted or For Sale.
