It's been a while since I've posted anything here, but after a long detour from fabrication I needed some inspiration! 4 years after I stopped building professionaly I am finally getting my own project back on track. The car has come a long way from a junk yard in Casper Wyoming to my garage in Vancouver Washington. New floors, new rockers, a new quarter panel, some major patches in the fenders and lots of shaving and detail work. Now if only I can get up the conviction to finish it! Otherwise it'll be a cool garage find for some young punk when I'm old and cranky. What do y'all do when you lose ambition? How do you get inspired to keep going? I'm still stuck on the part where I actualy find the car amongst all the crap.
You'd be surprised what an hour a day in the shop will do. Even if you just sit and stare at your project while drinking a beer for that hour. Pretty soon you'll be pulling all that crap off the car and getting busy.
I spent about 4 hours out there today. pulled most everything, including the car, into the driveway. Set up some good work spaces, and storage spaces. even unloaded some parts boxes onto a previously occupied rack. I'm thinking a few more hours and the garage will once again belong to the car.
Well it took three full days, but the garage is clean, organized and the car is ready to be worked on!
Just get in the garage and work, without thinking about what still has to be done, usually works for me. Every now and then, take a step back and look what you've accomplished. Good luck.(now get off the Hamb and work!)
That car is too cool to not finish! I see kid's stuff in your garage... Large motivator for me was when my boy was born this year, I want my project done so I can enjoy it with him. Plus mine has filled my folks garage for the last 15 years and I think they want it back!
I know what you mean I'm haveing a hard time finishing my truck right now. I hate feeling this way. It seems like a chore more than a hobbie right now. But all I can say is about 2 times a year I feel this way and then it goes away.... But I'm one of those that the build is all the fun after I'm done I want to build something else..... One day at a time is all I can say and before you know it you'll be done and driveing it. Keep at it we all go though this some time
I'm struggling somewhat with this myself. I really got slowed down when my knees got bad and now that they have been replaced I need to get back up to speed. I've just been taking inventory the last couple of days and organizing a battle plan. Winter is coming and hopefully I'll be able to get a couple of projects done and be ready to drive next spring. Getting old sure makes being lazy an easy option. Frank
I agree with getting out there for even and hour you will start to see progress and get more inspired to work on it....... but If I just sat there and drank beer for an hour I would get sidetracked because I would have to go pee.....
the problem that I have is getting stuck on one thing and not moving to another. if I get stuck chassis parts. I simply start on to body parts. just getting a fresh start in another area seems to renew my energy. this information comes from a guy with a project car started in August 1993. I'll get er done some day!!!
