Brought mine with a floor. Found the body was out of square by two inches. Complete new floor, subrails and the first 8" of the body and doors. Oh yes and the rear valance and above the windshield Look at it one piece at a time and it isn't that bad
It's only metal. I know when I saw my 55 for the first time, I almost agreed with the owner that it should have gone over a bank or been crushed but I got convinced that I'd be driving it in a year. Damn near new everything underneath from front to back plus wiring and fuel system, rear end, engine etc. You name it, it got replaced except for the toe board and tunnel. The car had been almost totally taken apart and the rear 1/4s cut in half with a torch lengthwise from front to back. Tackle one piece at a time and before you know it, it's gonna start looking like a car again
i found out when digging further and further into a car. what you find could only get worse. never seems something is better than what you would have expected. example: it is unlikely you take out your back seat to find out your car has a chrome plated floor.
bought a 46 chevy sedan ,,pulled up the rugs and thay were holding up the car,,,saved the hood and grille, down the road,,got a 4 door 48 for free, saved the rear fendrers and grille,,down the road too dave in pa, bought a 48 coupe from a hamber got it home bondo was 1 in thick, saved the front fenders ,,sent it to dave to rest next too the others,,,,bought a 46 on evil bay ,put all the good parts on it they were prob savable but i lurned long ago don,t start a project with a project....all toll there was only about 3 grand in all of them and in the end no heart attack over rust repair
your brain can be your own worse enemy if you over think this stuff. You can fix it. Your not on any deadline so just keep at it.
don't get discouraged..at least you can work on your car...My whole life is in boxes and storage...tools, projects, everything...I get up everyday and work...thankfully. Knowing it'll be "my" time eventually.
Hell you have more than my truck has ! I have a 37 Plymouth p/u truck that has NO floors and was all rotted out completely and the bottom of the doors and cab are rusted out 6" up , so you have it way better than mine is . Just be glad you found it out now and not later when you are wondering where all the fumes are coming from in the car ! That shouldn't be a bad fix really . You can do it ! Just take you time but wait till you get better ! You really don't want to be welding in your condition right now ! Retro Jim
Finally feeling better!!! Thank you everyone once again. I'm hoping to get out in the yard a couple of nights this week. we'll see...still kinda chilly out these days. cant wait for the nicer weather. I should be getting the new hood and fender from Owens this week...I know I'm far from needing it but just figured i might as well start collecting what i can. Besides..ya cant beat Bobs deals!
On my Jag, from the middle of the doors down and across to the same spot on the other side - and from the front of the car to the back........all replaced eventually. Got a solid car now tho!
Cancer in cars is curable. There will always be something... I know 1st hand. Just keep pushing forward.
Hell, my '34 didn't even have floors, or floor structure, or body mounts, or jams... It just depends on how bad you want it. You can do it! You can do it all night long!
I got my '59 F100 running for all of about 6 weeks. In that time I had the clutch explode, brakes went to ****, clutch master blew, and I spent the money to repair it all and then found out that the motor was no longer holding up oil pressure. (*&(*@#$^&*^!!! Now I am working on stuffing a 400 in the engine bay. And I have to replace all the **** like a new 4bbl, new fuel pump, water pump ignition.......
